Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

With the booming success of (wfs) http://www.logsitall.com I'm running into a problem keeping up with all the information.

The key players are myself, which you can email at george.mounce@gmail.com and Bill Patton the creator of the site who you can email at wkpatton@aol.com. Lets try and keep all traffic in this thread so we aren't clogging up the Community board in 30 different places.

Thank you all for putting in your information. Currently you can now edit your profile to display or not display your name in the rankings.

I forgot to mention - Bill and I are subscribed to this thread so we will be checking it out at much as possible.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

the basic idea behind LogsItAll was to set up a flexible online logbook that would be useful to record the diverse collection of workouts that CF entails then use these workouts to generate an online ranking.

since my day job consists of running the www.concept2.com/rankings (rowing ranking and logbook) so i thought this would be pretty easy. i was wrong.

with a great deal of help from George and others we've built up a pretty good very basic online logbook for all CF workouts - i've been steadily building up the standings / rankings pages - and have a long list of 'to dos'.

The flexibility of the log means that i can act pretty quickly to add features and in particular data to log. as an example i've got on deck a suggestion to allow recording of personal stats (bodyweight, resting HR, etc.).

Instructions for using the log are as follows:

1. create a profile by registering at www.LogsItAll.com - record your password
2. log on and then navigate to your logbook.
3. To begin select an activity - you'll see a long list of available ones (to restrict this list to only CF related ones, click on 'edit list of activities' to hide the ones you aren't going to use).
4. each activity has a list of sub-activities (named workouts, daily workouts, etc.)
5. enter as few or as many workouts as you like. The system will automatically select your best times for entry onto the standings page.
6. if you wish to use the log purely for personal reasons, you can opt out of having your times included on the standings page by looking under the profile panel and selecting 'edit profile'.

One thing Bill and I really need help with is - "Rx'd".

While the basic rx'd is in the definition of most of the named WODs there are often weights for women that still make it "rx'd". If someone has an idea of what they are, please post them here. Otherwise I'm going to use the Brand X forum version that lists the woman's weight.

The Heros section looks great, adding the picture and description is very nice.

Checking out Murph, is Rx'ed with or without a vest? The times are all over the board which suggests that people are posting as Rx'ed whether a 20 lb vest was worn or not. Is it worth adding a field for this? David

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

For one thing, apparently you can do Grace however you want and it's still rx'd ;-)

I think that, for the sake of time comparisons, dumbbell thrusters are a fair sub for wallball -- it's different, but it's not easier or faster, so the times still work. Same for SDHP for rowing (hell, that's gotta be harder) and perhaps tuck jumps for double-unders. These things are also real common due to equipment shortcomings, so I think it's reasonable to call them "rx'able."

George Mounce 09-22-2007 07:04 AM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

Brandon I agree with you in theory, but it is a sub - personally I think we need to have the comments section appear in the standings but I don't know how hard for Bill that would be, we'd need his opinion on it.

Brandon Oto 09-22-2007 07:48 AM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

I just think you have to decide what the point of the system is, which seems to be comparison.

If you make it 100% identical workouts only, I think you won't get very many data points, and I think you have to ask what you're gaining.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

i've done a quick upgrade of the standings pages and the profile:

1. CF gym affiliation is now listed. If your profile doesn't have this information and you'd like it to - look under your profile panel, select edit profile -and fill it in. Please use the full "forma" name of your gym so that we get consistent entries (i'm going to turn this into a database eventually)

2. you can now "drill" into the detail of any ranked piece by clicking on the position number. This will let you see the exact configuration of any ranked piece - from there you can make your own determination of how you should compare your performance to the ones ranked. Eventually i'll open up more criteria for filtering the standings results - but i think this will allow us to continue to build the data - and keep things useful...

other ideas please email or post.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

The drilling makes everything non-rx'd? I did Grace as rx'd but when I drill (I deleted my old one and put the weight rx'd for the WOD in there) but it still shows as non-rx'd.

I also see I show up twice under Grace. I thought it was going to pull the best times? I think the idea of the PR box where you check it or a "rank" like the Concept2 would be nice. This is also occurring for other WODs such as Fran for other people.

Bill Patton 09-22-2007 08:53 AM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

dangit - fix one thing, break two others.

i've rolled back the page a bit and will work on refining the detail page.

I've known for a while now that i've got to have a 'rank' button next to the log entries - couple of other higher priorities - so i'm going to make the standings pages work again - then get back to this idea in a bit...

So will comparisons be between workouts on the same date, or between best PRs? Or both possible?

Anthony Bainbridge 09-22-2007 04:48 PM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

Oops, just realized Brandon posted the same question I had.

If it was lifetime PR ranking system, I'd be interested. If it's on a per-day basis, I can just skim the comments page on that day.

George Mounce 09-22-2007 04:54 PM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

I believe the thought is to make it a lifetime PR system. I would like it to have the functionality to be able to search for a particular date as well, but one feature at a time. I think the ability to do both is needed.

OK, so explain why I need to put in my birthday to look at the system. Actually, all I wanted to do was see if y'all "swiped" the pictures/descriptions of the heroes workout from my FAQ - don't think my b'day is anybody's business.
I don't think my b'day is anybody's business.
She's serious too. Her birthday isn't on her user profile, and I don't just mean not shown to users, I mean it isn't in the database.

Brandon Oto 09-22-2007 06:26 PM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

Lynne, believe the birthdays are used to calculate age for ranking/statistical purposes.

George Mounce 09-22-2007 08:29 PM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

Its to determine your age - nobody but Bill sees it. Perhaps he can set it up so that you can just not put your age in, you'll have to talk to him.

If the descriptions are copy rite of CrossFit for the WODs, Bill can take the descriptions down very easily. We aren't trying to steal any information, just providing a data center to compare different times for different WODs.

Bill Patton 09-22-2007 08:45 PM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

a couple of quick answers and comments:
1. currently the system looks for your best time and uses this for your own entry into the standings pages. it automatically selects your best time ever. I hadn't stopped to consider wanting to see best times from a date range instead of best time ever - adding a date range selection to the current list of filters on the standing page wouldn't be too hard.

2. the system i built for concept2 allows users to self select the exact pieces for submission to the ranking - i can see adding a similar feature to logsitall shortly. this would give some more control over how entries can be viewed.

3. date of birth is used solely for calculating the approximate age that is displayed next to your name in the standings page - without this i have no way to set up the age range filter on the standings pages.

4. in no way did i want to **** off anyone who created or supported the development of the heroes workouts (or any other for that matter). I thought that by having a description that appeared on the standings pages i was respecting the concept - not swiping content. if this is an issue i will delete this content immediately.

5. rx'd - for right now the only way to see rx'd status of a workout is by drilling into the detail of the piece - i'm still working on a better way to handle this.

6. workouts that are ranked by rounds instead of time - i've got an idea on how to set this up - but haven't had time to try it yet...

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

What I would personally like is for workouts to rank against others from the same date, and then have a separate section for viewing all-time rankings. Those are different types of data and they're both interesting. (As Anthony says, you can get the latter by looking at the comments page, but not as easily and it's not manipulable.)

George Mounce 09-23-2007 05:53 AM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

First we will be using a PR flag for each user's log, then adding the ability to filter by date.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

Hope not, half the benefit is seeing how you stand on a new and novel workout.

I do think that interest is probably not high in logging MEs, though.

Bill Patton 10-05-2007 06:05 AM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

it will be interesting to see how this grows - the application i built for concept2 started out as a pure ranking, but it quickly became apparent that most people were just using it as a logbook, not ranking anything at all.

For logsitall - i've just set it up so that you can share a view of all the workouts you've logged in the system with friends, coaches, etc. in a controlled fashion. For instance you can decide to share your crossfit named workouts but not your crossfit bodyweight ones. I'm thinking that this might make a good addition to the journal thread here - time will tell.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

To get people to use it in place of their personal logs, it may need more power. Bigger comments field (for details/remarks) would be a basic way, but more indexable fields (for things like subjective intensity/difficulty and so on) would be what I'd need.

Bill Patton 10-05-2007 07:53 AM

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

brandon - you've got it.

1. i'll work on expanding the display of the comments field. this should be easy.

2. more 'indexable' field - clever idea. Can you post/pm or email me with the heading and i'll add it to one of the workouts classes as a test. The structure of logsitall allows me to quickly (almost instantly) deploy new headings or fields to the log - i set it up this way knowing that as people used it they would want to push the functionality...

Not very improtant at the moment I guess, but for me to invest lots of time logging to a online system, I'd want to be able to get my data out in a machine-readable format.

ole - i agree 100% - this was a feature i added very early on with the concept2 online ranking - and is one that is near the top of the list for logsitall.com - we have a system in place that will deliver results in xml format - however i'd like to also have a simple csv or text version in place as well. i expect to have this very soon.

I'd agree with this. I'm following the workout schedule of my affiliate and not the main CrossFit page, so the named workouts are my best progress trackers regardless of the dates on which I do them.

Thanks for the input. So far Logisitall has tons of data now to compare WOD times with other people around the country (and world!).

Still needs some tweaking for "round" WODs like Cindy, but its getting there!

George or Bill,

Is it possible to add the 30 MUs for time WOD to your standings area, that WOD isn't named but shows up quite often, I can't think of any other WODs like that one...maybe someone should just name that one??

Bill Patton 11-26-2007 11:48 AM

Aushion - i've added "30 Muscle Ups" to the CF named workouts - you should now be able to both log and rank this workout - get your entry in quick so you'll be #1 in the world...

top three:

[1] craig descoteaux 4 mins 9 secs M 29 135
[2] Chris Leach 4 mins 10 secs M 20 120 CrossFit Plano

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

Entered it in Logsitall. ;)

It was a decent performance I guess seeing as the flaws I had that you read about/saw in the vid. We'll see about doing some more of these types of metcons though since I haven't done any in a long while.

-------------------------------------------------------------

As for the the topic: all of the named workouts show up pretty well. It doesn't really index the weightlifting workouts well like CFT since it only has the time slot. Most of the other ones I checked out said "The selected activity has not been enabled for stats reporting yet." though so I really couldn't see of anything that needed to be changed/fixed to make better.

To correct the ones like CFT it should be possible to program different "slots" for each weight for each lift and then categorize them by total. The same with any other types of weightlifting activities or other stuff like running, swimming, etc. If you really want to get lazy just make a drop down menu for time or weight and then different exercises to the right that insert additional columns as needed. For example:

Position | Gender | Approx. Age | Bodyweight | CF Gym Affiliation | Time/Exercises list1/CFT | Load1 | Exercise list2 | Load2

If any exercise from the exercise list1 is selected, then Load1 column appears and you can input the weight as well as Exercise List2 appearing and so on for however many exercises you want.

This would be a good for CFT.. you can then organize by total, squat, DL or press through the exercise list column or any of the other workouts like the ones from the "how fit are you" as well as different types of tabatas. It shouldn't be that hard to draw up a list of different exercises to list under that as well.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

steven - try clicking through to the advanced standings pages. There you will see a very powerful 'standings tool' that will let you do several things.
For instance - say you want to see the 'ranking' for time to do 20 reps of oly clean 200 pounds...

enter 'time, lowest is best'. then type in 200 into the pounds field.

It takes a little bit to learn the system - but once you get the hang of it, you can generate almost any type of ranking you can imagine. Please let me know how you make out.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

As far as I can tell then all you need is drop down menus for the actual exercises... since you can't really tell what's going on. :\

The advanced searching thing is just what I was thinking of though. Nice.

Re: Official Logsitall.com Thread - Post Here!

building that advanced stats page was really tough - some crazy programming going on behind the scenes... i'm not sure what you mean by drop down though - do you want to see each workout along with a description?

on another topic - i just pulled the list of countries that have cf/logistall visitors... crazy! cuba???

When I selected "Weight lifting" the only categories that could be organized were:

Date Done(M/D/Y)
Pounds
Reps
Comments

There was no section to categorize by exercise selection. So the 200 lbs you said I should select could be cleans, power cleans, bench, squat or anything. Along with that instead of just doing total reps it might be a good idea to add a category for sets. 24 reps done in 8 sets of 3 is much different than 3 sets of 8.
