Hello all i recently posted some questions about shin splints that you all chimed in and helped me understand a little more about them. Well i have a couple more questions. A friend who plays soccer told me that a guy on his soccer team gets shin splints bad and what he did was replaced his soals in his shoes with some new ones with a little more padding and an arch support in his shoes. I guess this helped him. My question is would this help me? I know that no-one has seen me run but guessing would be okay. I am resting more and icing alot which is helping alot. I never heard about arch supports. Are they any good? Thanks ahead of time. Josh

Better soles/inserts can have a huge impact on shin splints. Splints (forearm or shin) are the result of impact generally. If you can reduce the impact you can reduce the... well, impact.

Look into the POSE method [url=][/url] . Changing your running style will probably help, you are likely running heel-toe instead of on the balls of your feet. The anterior tibialis must deal with huge eccentric loads when the heel is constantly hitting the ground first--it then starts to tear away from the bone. Ouch.

Note, this method does take work. It deals with a cause, and not just with a symptom.
