A Box Question
Looking to open a box by April 2011. We are looking to be able to train 10 athletes per session. We are looking at a few spaces. My question is...

Can I get by with 1200 sq ft or do I need to be closer to 2000.?

Re: A Box Question
If set up correctly, and run efficiently that is more than enough space.

Re: A Box Question
I read somewhere in the journal to expect about 200 square feet per athlete but that number seems high after talking to many people. I even talked to one box owner who said they finally had to look for a bigger place when they had 19 people doing a workout in 500 square feet and that the bars were just missing each other.

Re: A Box Question
that is plenty of space. I am a garage affiliate w/ 336 sf and train 5 peeps a class. It is more than enough if, as Brian said, organized and run efficiently. I could actually go to 7 people but don't just yet. Just be smart w/ programming, stagger if you must.

Re: A Box Question
We've got about 1500SF. We generally cap sessions at around 12 but as a military affiliate that's often not practicable for various reasons so we run heats. We once had 24 pax doing Cindy, for instance. I like the general rule of 200sf/athlete, it makes things run really smoothly. It's from one of Jon Gilson's videos by the way.

Anyway, it really depends on the WOD and what you're doing. If it's a low weight/high volume couple or triplet with oly lifts thrown in then a little room is a good idea. If it's Karen on the other hand you can get by with about 10SF per. For kettlebell swings, maybe a little more. You get the idea.

It's worth noting that the 200SF guideline takes into account the overhead for equipment, office space and so on. I think.

Re: A Box Question
I believe in the video, he says that the 200sf per client refers to the entire box (workout area, restrooms, etc.)...which means you could probably get by with a little less.
