I am getting ready to order some climbing ropes for our new place.

Any suggested sizes. (1", 1.5", 2")

I was thinking about two of each.

Ideas?

1.5 is a bit thick for some people unless you have big hands, if you're doing it for a comm. place, I'd suggest 1 inch, or 1.25 if available.

Douglas,
If you can afford two of each go for it!!! No harm in having something very hard to train with. If you've seen the ropes at HQ none of them are standard diameter. I think they are close to two inches and I think one is greater then two though I may be mistaken its been a few months since being there so forgive me if I am mistaken. They are bigger then 1 inch that I can confirm!

Thanks guys, I was thinking that.

Doug,

I got a 3/4" hanging from my rafters about 15ft up. Its been up there over a year and a half now. No problems so far. I really dont know how it would hold up in a commercial gym though. Plus the rope I got is real slippery when its cold outside.
Only good thing about it is I paid like 25 bucks for 22 ft..

They get thinner when weight (i.e. you) is hanging on them, right? Maybe that's just the cheap nylon stuff like heavy duty tow ropes I got from HD.
