I've seen a lot of athletes tripping over the bar - some so bad they are on hands and knees, getting up off the group. Matt Chan tripped on his first clean, and Andrea Ager on her last. There were a bunch of others too.
Amanda Goodman must have seen this happening. She stiff armed the first bounce after each drop to get over the bar faster.
SO MANY tripped on the bars we were taking bets in the stands as to how mnay were going to fall in each heat. The best was when someone would trip more than once.:rofl:
I haven't been to the DCC in a while, but it looked like it was being held in the Exhibit Hall. Was the arena not available or was the floor of it not big enough to hold the event? Didn't make a lot of sense to me to have it set up like that if it was available to use. If not they should have gone to the Allen Events Center or Will Rogers Coliseum where they have stadium seating available.
It was indeed in the exhibit hall. Joke of a venue. Yes the Allen Event Center, or Will Rogers would be lights out better choices. |

The Bad: After attending the SouthCentral Regional last year, I was kind of on edge about it being at the Dallas convention Center in the first place. After being there, I am at a loss for words. I will not be attending next year unless I know there will be enough seating. The move to a venue maybe 1/5 the size while making the Regional's larger makes ZERO sense. From 12k to MAYBE 3k? While bringing Latin America in? The DJ: .....seriously? Sunday if I heard one more backspin, I was going to walk over, and hit him in the farking head. I'm so happy you learned this technique that is 30 years old, and belongs NO WHERE in techno. And for the love of God, kill the techno/house. That is so 90's. People down here listen to as much rap as they do techno when they work out. How about some Rick Ross, or JayZ, or something? Who would want to cheer after being beat down by 3 days of Axle Foley as a techno song? (which I heard all 3 days) It was very sexist with the Taylor Swift, and "girl pop" songs when the Ladies went. Food choices: Step up your game HQ. Force the venue to allow in some other local choices. Those burgers were a joke, and the "sweet potato tots" and fries both were so bad I couldn't eat them. The chicken I wouldn't have given to my dog it was so dry. At least last year we could walk a mile to the Paleo Guy food tent that was off site. I know the contracts are hard in cases like this, but SOMETHING has to be done, it's just not going to be able to move forward without this key part. Parking: $15 a day, if you were lucky. That lot was full Sunday because of other events going on in the venue. $20 a day is a LOT to tack on when you're already paying so much to get in. The GOOD: Vendor Village: I felt this was done pretty well. RBK had a good tent, but needed more than 100 of the new Nano's, and more than 2 size 12's in Men's. Enjoyed seeing the new Games Gear. Speaking of the new Nano, whoa, nice job. As someone who bought athletic training shoes for a brick and mortar store with 200 stores, nice job, and priced very well. Well done. The workouts were pretty good. HQ know's how to put on a show now, and the workouts showed it. Good job, and a good finish too it. I think you need some more of those kinds of workouts through the weekend though. No one wants to watch teams, unless they are a part of one of the gyms. Break it up so that teams swap with men's/women's throughout the day. That will also give a longer break for the athlete's. Overall you can see how much planning has gone into this whole event and it's a work of art. Sure there are always going to be some things to hammer out to make it better, but overall I am very impressed by the logistical and operational side. Even down to the pads on the rig uprights for the muscle ups was thought of. Well done Rogue and HQ. Other interesting notes: The number of Nike's I saw on both athletes and fans. Wow. RBK has their work cut out for them. Seems like people were ready for Nike to hit this market. I will say that the new Nano's look and feel pretty good. Wish I could have snagged a pair, but again, needed more than 2 size 12's. All these healthy people were sure willing to give up that life for those horrible hamburgers. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Wonder if Adidas would sell Reebok to Nike? That would be something. Then Nike could really get into the Games.. Adidas would make a tidy profit thanks to Crossfit. Personally I like the Nano's the best.

Emily Bridgers is the real deal. Her performance at the Atlantic Regionals really impressed me. I expect she will medal at the Games.
For the athletes from africa, asia and latin america, does crossfit give anyone travel subsidies ?
I doubt it. Athletes pay a registration fee to compete at Regionals.
The DJ: .....seriously? It was very sexist with the Taylor Swift, and "girl pop" songs when the Ladies went.
The music is my #1 complaint about live CrossFit events. It bugs me enough I'd almost rather not go to a live event. Music tastes vary so much, it will be nearly impossible to make people happy, though.
The GOOD:Break it up so that teams swap with men's/women's throughout the day. That will also give a longer break for the athlete's.
I'm going to disagree with this one. If you don't have a team to cheer for, let all the team events happen first. You show up to cheer later in the day and can watch all the individual events. If they're individual and team events are interspersed through the day, you end up watching events you're not interested in. |
What's the brand and model of the treadmills ?
TruForm Runner. They cost about $6000.
overall though, i like the reduced number of regionals
Me too. It was fun watching a lot more top athletes in the last (and even second to last heats) throwing down. Did you see the last heat of event 7 in the Atlantic Regional? Holy smokes, it was fast! Women: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-hO-pW-SCM&t=479m17s (wfs) Men: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-hO-pW-SCM&t=429m17s (wfs) What is the point of keeping regional boundaries as they are? Why not have regions match the super regional boundaries? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Yes music.. I can remember two times coming out to the workout with the Price is Right theme song playing.. what kind of DJ would play that once let alone twice..
Crossfit has this love affair with people who do x fit out of the sport.. Rick Ross.. yes he has lost weight and happy for him.. he gets enough press and media without x fit. Plus he let Garret Fisher grow his hair out long enough that he needs a head band.. Sorry GF gotta get back to the games. We love the old hair style. I thought that the events were overall good. Shoulder gotta be hurting pups right now for them. Mine hurt just doing workout #6 yesterday. Looking forward to the Regionals in Cali this weekend. Will not be the same with out Jason K.. yes he will be in the team but team events at the regional level were ho hum.. yawn.. boring.. The games workouts were cool yesterday . I love the big bob part were it turns into a exercise circus pulled and pushed all around. Cheers |

Yes they do, so why limit it to JUST techno? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I like to workout to Beethoven and movie soundtracks. They're never gonna play that at a competition.

Four first place finishes out of seven events. She dominated the weekend. Definitely not intimidated by have the 2013 champ in the lane next to her. |
