Smith Machine Squats
You may have seen my post under "injuries," but I broke my arm a few weeks ago and long story short, cannot hold a bar on my back for squats. Right now I've been doing lunges, pistols, hip extensions, KB deadlifts and stuff like that for my legs. I was thinking I could go to a gym near my house and use their Smith machine for back squats since I wouldnt have tohold the bar. I know and I've read all the bad things about smith machines, how they isolate and you can do so much more weight than normal. So my question is, would it be of any benefit at all to do squats on the smith machine? or should i stick with other leg work?

I agree, keep doing what you are doing and hit the leg press before thinking about that bad word you said.

I agree, don't do smith machine squats. Do goblet squats, lunges, bulgarian split squats, box jumps. And it you really want to use machines, leg press, quad machine and hamstring curl.

Yep. Do the leg press and then ask for forgiveness once you heal up. :)

Some options more:
Sled drags/sprints with belt/harness, forward/backwards. Lunges with sled.
Walking (stairs) with weight/dip belt.

IMO, I think Smith Machines and/or Jones Machines have their place in a decent Globo Gym, but from experience, I would never condone squatting in one.

I tried for a little over a year with my home Smith Machine, thinking that I could make my quads bigger with more isolation - all I ended up with was severe patellar tendonitis that is only recently (after almost two years) starting to get better.

barbell squats and good duct taping job ha jk.....heard just as much bad things about leg press and hyperextending the back.....just focus on body weight (pistols, air squats, lunges, step ups) sleds seem like a good option to.....but if you want machine work (leg press, smith) I would say light they just seem to take out of the full body functional theory of crossfit...
