Re: The Bassman's Log (Steve Lampl)

Monday, 11/03/08:

PHYSICAL THERAPY.
Good news this time around. Knee finally seems to be getting stronger. A lot less pain too, I have one last session on Wed, the 5th, when we'll reevaluate the knee and determine what will be the next step, if any.

Warm Up:
Stationary Cycling. 20:00 / L3 / 5.2 mi / 100 RPM / HR to 98

Stretching. (Primarily back, lower extremities). 15:00.

WOD
3 Rounds for Time
800m Row (C2 Rower) Subbed for 800m run - knee not ready for this distance.
50 Back Extensions
50 Sit-ups
Time = 26:17 (Includes trips up/down stairs to/from rower. Also, last set of sit-ups unanchored - - my anchor was being used by someone else!)

Not feeling well after this, so I called it a day...........

Note: My wife' (Cheryll) saw our local orthopedic surgeon today. Turns out her fractured shoulder is a bit worse than we initially thought, but the fracture is still stable, so we'll know better in two weeks, when it is re-evaluated. It turns out it was a spiral fracture of the head of the right humerus, not just a simple break. Hopefully, it will still not require surgery......

I hope to get back to reading everyone's logs again tomorrow, when I feel better. Take care all!

Nice work on Michael, Stephen. That's one of my goats. Subbing in the rowing should make it even slower, but that's still a damn good time. I may have to tackle that soon minus the GHD situps (since 50 of those would not treat me well).

Thanks, Patrick.

I should have mentioned in the log that I did regular sit-ups. I didn't realize they should have been GHD, which would have made the time go up a bit. I really like doing them, though. I seldom get sore any more, but the first few reps make me dizzy and light headed every time to the point where I feel like I'm going to fall off the bench. I think I'm having a bout with positional hypotension and leaning back over for the GHDs doesn't help.

What? Michael is supposed to be GHD situps? Since when? I missed something if that's the case. Usually GHD situps are called out.

Glad to hear your knee is getting better Steve. Mine is getting worse but I don't want to go get it looked at. I'm hoping it will just go away... :o

You know Bob, I'm not entirely sure. I saw a couple of posts and thought, well maybe they are supposed to be GHD situps. My bad...........

Thank you, Anu! Yup, the injuries are the pits. thank you so much for your well-wishes. Cheryll is fairing the worst, unfortunately. Luckily, she is very left-handed and she busted her R/shoulder, so we both are happy on that count.

Thank you, Carla. I guess the key for me is to foam roll the living daylights out of the knee/quads/and IT band/hip on the right leg. Plus, all the squat stuff they had me doing at CF Redding didn't hurt either!

Any idea what could be causing yours so much grief? Is there a really good sports orthopedist you could go see (who would respect your wishes regarding any treatment)? Anyway, I hope it heals by itself too. Take care!

I think I hurt it while doing broad jumps and duck walks a few weeks ago... Then the trail running pushed it over the edge. I have someone I can see that I trust. I think I will give it another week though since it's only been a week since I stopped the running. Thanks!!

Tuesday, 11/04/08:

Forced Rest Day. Sick. :puke0000:
Felt like 3 rounds of trucks versus a barrier. I was the barrier!

Hope I feel better tomorrow. Not being able to work out sucks!

No, it doesn't call out GHDs. That just seems the natural way to do it, since you'd be doing backX on the GHD anyways - just flip over and hit it. Unfortunately, the 75 GHD situps I did for a half-Michael destroyed me so much that I've avoided th is workout, forgetting that the GHD was my own bad idea (inspired by folks on the comment page who do better with the GHD than I). I put it back on my list of metcons to hit, but I won't be using the GHD.
