Hey Steve! No I didn't use 95# on the virtual shovel WOD. I'm a retard today! I used the woman's rx'd weight of 70 (45+25plate). Just wanted to clear that up!
Are you trying that one? Not one of my favs!:(

Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log

WOD 090112
"Virtual Shoveling"

Warm-up: Jump Rope Singles. Was going to do 100 X 3; this would have been a nice warmup for me. But, considering how many times I tripped, I was lucky to get 50 X 3.
CFWU X 2: Included shoulder dislocates, trunk rotations, and 5 kipping P/Us (shouldda probably left these out, since the WOD only had 105 pull-ups in it!! - - DOH!).

Virtual Shoveling:
With an Olympic bar holding only one plate (men use 45 pound plate, women use 25 pound plate), touch the plate on one side of the barrier then the other for one "rep." Barrier is 24."
Reps = 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5.
Pull-ups. Post time.
Time (as Rx'd) = 25:46 PR!!
Last one was 9/23/08 with time of 27:13. Also, there was some confusion then over what constituted 1 rep, so I only counted a touch on one side of the barrier as one rep (thus doing only half the "shoveling").

This one HURT!! Still having some congestion and think I spent the entire time in oxygen debt. I kipped all pull-ups in groups of 2 or 3. My grip started to go about half-way through. I'm glad I could switch hands.....wouldda never made it through without dropping the barbell, or falling off the pull-up bar.

New Year's Challenge: Day 12 X 2 = 24.
Missed yesterday. Make up 11 X 2 = 22.
Total = 46 to do today.
Fried from the WOD today, so broke burpups into 6 groups of 7 (42) + 4 = 46!

After today, I'm ready for a week off. NOT!!
Bring it! :pepper::pepper:

Shoulder Dislocates, Arm Circles

30 push-ups (sub for dips due to messed up shoulder)
95# power clean X 12 reps. Did 6. Felt good and went up easily on some lifts, so tried 115# (Fail X 5), got 2 (PR), couldn't get any more, so dropped back to 95# X 4 = 12 reps
24 push-ups (unbroken. First time I've gotten more than 20 in a row during a WOD!!!)
95# power clean X 9 reps

95# power clean X 3 reps
6 push-ups

WO not timed. I wanted to concentrate on form and was still pretty fried from yesterdays' WO. This WO was hit and miss - - felt like my leg strength was not explosive enough to properly power the lift from the floor and generate the inertia for the clean. Also, hip engagement was weak.

New Year's Challenge: Day 13 X 2 burpups = 26. (Not timed).

All in all, felt this was a good workout. Problems with the cleans are probably in my head.....will continue to work on form and develop strength with weighted squat jumps.

Nice job on the WOD yesterday Stephen, we did the same one tonight.
The last 6 ring dips killed me, they were nearly impossible, I was spent and had nothing left.

That's awesome your are signed up for an L1 cert! Let me know how it goes. I am planning to do that sometime this year. I want to get more time under my belt (maybe 6 months or so). Our affiliate is already on board wih me helping him out down the road. You should come down to Escalon and check it out sometime. It's a small place but functional. I think Sonora would be a great place for an affiliate.

Talk about someone who has a great attitude and is motivational! You are so awesome! You are correct, I love the idea of being a trainer and/or affiliate; I just need to be sure that I don't make my sweetie a "CrossFit Widow." I am a really passionate person and that passion carries over to things I really believe in. So I have to kinda "temper" my pursuits. As for certifications, well said! I've often thought about pursuing at least the ACE cert, but had to consider my fitness level (now not really a problem) and what I would do with the cert. I am an EMT and have a good basic knowledge of anatomy, but that's really not enough...

Hi Terry,

Thanks so much! I wish I'd have purchased some rings already.....I need to do that soon. My R/shoulder is still suffering from bursitis, so I could not do any dips and had to sub the push-ups. I hear ring dips are HARD!

I've really been excited reading about your affiliate and how things are going down there. I am studying and developing a business plan with respect to possible affiliation here in Sonora. We really need an affiliate. I've a firefighter friend who also is motivated to get one going, so we're looking into this kinda as a team.

As for the L-1 cert, I'd encourage you to go as soon as you could. I was apprehensive about going until I had more CF time under my belt, but if I want to affiliate, I have to be certified. Additionally, I have nearly ZIP for knowledge about oly lifts. But everyone has said - - go NOW .....I'll learn the lifts before I develop long-term bad habits, etc. On the other hand, you are really knowledgeable about the lifts and have the strength behind them too. You'd do great!

Wow...i'm so excited for you! An affiliate! :highfive: I'm so jealous!

I hope you don't mind the suggestion, but : See if you can find an olympic weightlifting coach in your area. Tell him what your up to and see if he'd be interested in working with you, both to learn the lifts, learn how to coach the lifts and to be associated with the affiliate in some way. Olympic coaches have years of experience that you just can't pick up in a 2 day cert. It would be great to have one on staff at your affiliate to teach a few weekly skills classes. Also, olympic coaches usually have a similar space and equipment to what an affiliate would need. Hope you don't mind the ideas.

Hi Helen,

Thanks!! I don't know how quickly or well things will progress as of yet regarding affiliation, but that is the plan. I'm definitely on the right track developing a business plan, and if all works out in the scheme of things, Lord willing, it will happen.

Thanks so much for the suggestion on the strength coach. Unfortunately, don't really have one in the area except, perhaps at the junior college. There are a couple of really knowledgeable guys doing CF at my globo; one I believe did the barbell cert a bit ago and he's been helping me when he was there....I hope to have some training under my belt by the time I hit the cert.....I may also see If I can get to one of the closer (an hour plus away) affiliates a couple of times before I go........I figure I can't learn too much right now....

Cool Down:
Walk 200m / run 200m up 10% grade X 2 (not timed).

New Year's Challenge: Day 18 X 2 = 36 burpups. No pull-up bar available today, so did double the number of strict burpees.
36 X 2 = 72 burpees.

(*) Note: I've developed the bad habit over the years of running heel-toe. I guess not having run for the past 21 months allowed me to re-learn properly. Almost all steps/paces during my run were landed on the flat of the foot - - possibly like POSE? I felt much more powerful in my strides and lifting my knees higher as I took them felt like it increased my speed. It seems like the strides take less effort at greater speed too. That was really cool, until I started going down hill and found it hard to slow down.....
