Great battle at the end of SQT (Men's 45-49) between Craig Eisman and fellow board member Scott Jenkins! Really thought Scott had him there after Eisman was pulled back for a no rep.
Vic McQuaide is also active on the forum, and is competing in that same division. Scott and Vic are in 12th and 13th place after three events with four events to go.

OK, take this comment with a grain of salt, which is to say, all these people are awesome....but....

Anyone see Amanda Allen in the Triplet? I hate to say it, but she looked "paunchy," not at all like she's in Games shape (by the standards she's set for herself via her past performance) and finished WAY back. Looks like she came back in the other two workouts, now up to 6th place, but historically, hasn't she - like - flat roasted her competitors at the Games? Is everyone catching up, or the opposite?

Earlier thie year, she said in an interview that her preparation was far from optimal this year.

Watched some of the masters yesterday, I was amazed of the bodies those dudes and gals still have at 50+. Great motivation for all of us.

Regarding the individuals : CLB & Fraser will crush the competition.

My top 5 for the men :
Fraser
Panchik
Bailey
Ohlsen
Parker

My top 5 for the women :
Leblanc-Bazinet
Sigmundsdottir
Webb
Letendre
Bridgers

For the teams : Norcal will probably take it this year.

Thanks, Ludovic. Wonder if everything is ok with her (injury, personal life, etc..)?

I agree, I kept saying, "holy cow, that guy's 55?!? That guy's 48??!" Great standards to strive for.

the live marker helps; they just need a way to identify all the athletes and not just the ones the commentators recognize.
Is everyone catching up, or the opposite?
Both.

Not every athlete is pushing to stay ahead of the curve. Amanda Allen is still in the top 1% of all CrossFitters. Maybe she didn't prioritize training above all other aspects of life this year. She still qualified for the Games and is doing well at the competition, but not enough to leave the competition behind. CrossFit the sport has developed to the point that we see the denouement of top athletes. Think of of Kristan Clever - did well for herself at Regionals this year, but didn't qualify for the Games.

Right now Allen is in 6th place with four events to go. She's still in the running to win. Don't count her out yet.

I'm having a goofy problem with the ESPN3 feed.

The main window loads indefinitely with the thumbnail of Annie. It never gets to the video feed.

I can see the video feed only in a tiny window to the side of the event schedule.

Audio is fine.

I tried this in a couple different browsers and had the same issue.

*edit*
Huh. Now the feed for the men's event is working normally. Weird.

two miles on these paddle boards is frickin' far.
most are doing prone position rather than on knees.

looks like some of the boards have gopros attached.

you can deposit the board anywhere in the staging area but 5-minute penalty if you damage the board.

The scaling for the teens is ridiculous. A 12" box jump for a 15 yr old girl! :wtf: 10 lb wallballs, and cutting DU reps in half ?!?!

To me it just seems like the games committee doesn't respect the teens, and/or has no idea what an athletic teenager is capable, maybe they should step outside??

seems like they did a fairly good job.

only 2 of the girls out of both the 14/15 and 16/17 y.o. finished wod 4.

and comparing times/scores of the same age brackets and placements between the boys and girls is pretty similar.

Tighe Crovetti 07-22-2015 10:24 AM

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

I get Scott's point. It does seem like the 14-15's are finishing their wod's "kinda tired" and the 16-17's are "freaking exhausted." The boys in the chipper were throwing that 70# sandbag without a ton of awkwardness, while the ones having to handle the 100# sandbag were really struggling. But, I don't know, maybe there is just a very wide disparity among those two age groups AND within the age groups?? not sure...

I think the liability and potential media backlash of a young teen getting injured is just too much for the Sport to really push them. Maybe that'll change in the future a little but this is the first year so better to err on the side of caution.

You've got to log in to espn.go.com, go to "event schedule," then "replay." You've find the team event and other events that have already happened there.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

I wondered if the sandbag/wheelbarrow event would be limited to the stadium floor, or if they would go up in the stands like the 2010 event. It looks like they've kept spectators out of those areas of the stands so they can do the event just like 2010.

The stadium is not full on a Wednesday afternoon, so it was good planning to do this event early in the competition.

CFG 15.1. Why no one using Sidestoke?

I can't see anyone using the sidestroke for the swim element?

I find this interesting, as arguably the side stroke can be as fast as the crawl over that distance, and it definitely would allow you to switch up the muscles used somewhat, to battle the fatigue, as there is the paddle board element in between the two swim elements.

I'd use the Combat Swim Stroke variant to reduce breathing drag, with a kick instead of a scissor as leg fatigue is a non issue for this event

Any thoughts as to why not? Surely someone considered it?

Sean

Annie's judge running down the stairs to tell her that she is carrying the wrong bag up the stairs is bullpies. Annie should have had to go all the way up the stairs then all the way back down. It is the competitors fault for making that mistake and the judge running down the stairs like that limits the consequences which is unfair to the other competitors.

especially since they didn't do the same with the other athletes. they let the other ones carry the red bag all the way up and then made them take it back down.

I did not watch all the heats, but I saw Sigmundsdottir carry her read bag up to the top and they let her leave it a step below the finish (she got 4th in the event). I did not watch the whole heat, but the announcers were praising her for her strategy. Surprised to see someone like Annie make the mistake, but when you are pushing yourself that hard sometimes the mind does funny things.

That's the inconsistency he's talking about, on Sara's next trip up the stairs, they made her carry the red bag all the way back to the bottom of the stairs, effectively having to carry it up the stairs twice.

Got it, I missed that, seems like her judge was following the rules then. I guess lucky for Annie if anything.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

I watched almost all the heats for men and women and they definitely stopped more athletes than Annie from carrying the bag all the way up. Sigmundsdottir just got unlucky by being the first one to do it I believe. I'm sure after that the judges were on high alert. They even said the judges were conferring during the event and Castro stepped in to confirm it needed to be left at the bottom until the last trip.
