I have a lower-back injury that has bothered me on-and-off for a decade. The problem recently recurred, and the usual solution of resting for a week or so has no resulted in the pain abating enough for me to train normally. I had some x-rays taken, and an orthopedist diagnosed disk degradation between L5 and S1. The thinness of the disk is obvious on the x-rays, now that I know what to look for.

Unfortunately, this same doctor told me not do do squats or deadlifts at all; he suggested I could do bench press and biceps curls. He wasn't interested in finding a way for me to continue CrossFitting while minimizing pain and further injury.

So, I'm looking for another orthopedist. Can anyone recommend a doctor in metro Maryland, preferably near Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village or Columbia/Laurel?

Thank you for your attention. I look forward to hearing from you.

Michael

Thanks, Joey. Their website certainly makes it look like they frequently work with athletes. I made an appointment.

Dr. Allen Manison is your best bet, I have sent all my clients to him for the past few years. He has actually written a few articles on CrossFit and has always been a huge advocate of what we do.
