I was just on the last rep of my 4th set of 3x5 front squat, at 225lbs. On my way down, just before the lowest point, something popped in my lower back, L1 or L2. Really felt like something popped out. Immediate pain, but not that bad, I dropped the bar, but it's not like it put me on the floor. Now bout an hour later, after 1000mg of ibuphrophen, an IPA and 30 minutes of ice the pain is very minimal. So it felt like a disk slipped, but the pain is not bad at all.

I've done 5 reps of 232 before, so not a record weight.

Is there some kind of back injury that is sudden like that but is not a slipped disk? It really did feel structural, not muscular.

I assume I should take it easy, alternate ice and heat, and stay on the ibuphrophen for a few days?

I need to be functional, I have a motocross race on Sunday!

+ see the appropirate professional if need be.

Don't do anything that aggravates it... including motocross on Sunday.

Thanks, great stuff. Pretty sure it's a muscle strain after reading your article Pain not that bad even when in off the ibuphrophen/IPA combo.
