If you eat frozen vegetables like me for convenience I found an even greater and quicker product.."Steamfresh" by Birdseye are frozen veggies in a bag, but the 'hot' thing about them is that they steam in the bag. You just toss it in the microwave like popcorn. 4 1/2 minutes later they are ready to eat..I love it. I only have to open my microwave and George Foreman a total of two times a piece for a complete meal! I only have to wash one plate! This saves energy for the WOD!

I would rethink putting anything plastic in a microwave. I don't know if any research has been able to prove or measure release of dangerous substances when heating plastics, but I know it's more of a risk than I'd be willing to take, convenient or no...

If it's meant to be steamed in the bag then I wouldn't worry about it.

Microwave destroys nutrients and mutates protein molecules....so I'll stick with the steamer.

Good Tip, Randy. Between work, family and fixing up a house, given the choice between cutting, washing and steaming veggies or tossing a bag in the microwave and taking whatever risks with mutated protein and lost nutrients. . . there. . .I'll take the risks. I admire the folks who have the time and dedication to go "all the way" with this stuff, but a lot of us need to find a compromise to get it done, or it won't get done at all.

i've been using these steamed bags as well...only down fall there so expensive. I think the "deal" here at the local supermarket is 2 for 4$....And eating a bag a day can get expensive...but i do love it!!

Boy, a guy says he's eating microwaved veggies, which to me seems like a good thing, and you guys are all over him about how bad is is for him. I'm lazy: without my microwave, I'd be eating a lot worse than my already-bad diet is. Reminds me of the raw foods guys.

Not over him....just giving information on how important the way you cook is for food. Veggies are so vital because of the natural live enzymes and other phytonutrients that are given to the body for repair and health....so how are veggies any better than a cracker if you nuke them and destroy 98% of those living vit and minerals our body desires?
Numbers may not be 100% accurate everytime but you get the picture. Steamed or raw is the best and ideal....others are ok but you are not getting much out of doing it as you may think you are. Research the dangers on the microwave on google and you will find lots of great things from how it mutates proteins, kills live nutrients, and even is dangereous when warming up the milk for babies (as in what it does to the milk), so much that many hospitals take them out for that reason. |

Mike,
What would be your suggestion for hot food at the office? I cook my food at home a day or two before I eat it and don't always like to eat cold food, even though I do it on occasion. |

Mike;
I nuke veggies if time limited, pan fry with olive oil for dinner/breakfast. So no nuking means steaming or cooking on stove, or raw? Can you give me an idea of what you on a regular basis for heating food. Thanks very much. Jay |
