First of all where i can i get this, second how to use and is it possible to eat it with out mixing or cooking with it. The only reason i ask is because i live in the barracks and have no way to cook, but still would like the benefits. Also where does everyone get their guidelines for the zone, specific book?

coconut oil can be found at any hippie store--i.e. one that sells organic produce, etc. you can eat it straight from the jar, but large spoonfuls go down hard sometimes--it's similar to eating a stick of butter. you might want to opt for coconut milk instead--much easier to drink.
zone - issue 21 of the CF journal has a good block chart. |

If you have a place that is >76 degrees, then it will be a liquid. I keep mine in the water heater closeet.

Coconut oil seems very refined/processed to me, as its so pale, coconut milk or cream in a tin less so, but with the oil(from health food stores) you generally get the guarantee that the product has not been hydrogenated, does anyone know if the milk/cream is likely to have undergone this process?
As most of coconut fat is already saturated, this may not be a big issue. Also Cordain breifly mentions in 'the dietary acne cure' that coconut does contain lectins...and also that most nuts have not been studied regarding lectins... |

I have been using coconut oil for about two weeks now. I eat it with a spoon in the morning. It was tough at first to eat not because of taste or odor but because of texture. It does seem as though you are eating butter or Crisco. It gets easier to eat as you go along. I have tried it in liquid form and that isn't too bad either. I must admit that I have seen a very noticeable improvement in my facial skin and a fair reduction in acne.

Depends on who you talk to, Frank. Cordain says that 12-15% of our calories is optimal (http://www.thepaleodiet.com/articles...er%202006a.pdf).
Others like Colpo (http://theomnivore.com) or the folks at http://www.thincs.org like Uffe Ragvnskov, would say more won't hurt you in the least bit. Colpo even argues that saturated fat is the most healthful of all. This issue is so controvesial I wouldn't take anyones word for it, you must study the issue for yourself. |
