I follow him enough online to see that he's obviously focusing on his lifts over everything else, more power to him since it's clearly his strength. It just took me by surprise since he was such a star at last years games and then just boom, no more.

With all the injuries, people falling behind, and others not participating, this might be a good year for up and comers to put their name out there.

Big surprise is Captain Kenny L from So Cal.. in 62nd place right now.. Plus Josh B way down after the horsepower workout in DL.

I would have picked Akinwale to win 14.3. However, I am not surprised Sidell was one rep better than her. The girls side of competition will be much harder to predict this year.

Wow Leverichs 140 on 14.3 is very surprising though he previously tore a hamstring and went a long time without deadlifting last year...wonder if Bridges threw anymore fits after this workout like his last dead lift tantrum.

He should have. He only got 8 more reps than me and I'm a schlub. He made it to the final WOD in the Games and got destroyed by deadlifts, you'd think he would've spent the off season addressing that glaring weakness.

I thought they had a video fairly recently with him even talking about how he'd put a lot of emphasis on deadlifting?

They did, and he said he's gotten alot stronger in the DL. Got to remember though that he still only weighs 165 lbs; doing reps at 315 after all the work to get there is going to be very tough for the smaller guys.

I suppose. I'm only 175-180. Just surprised our scores were that close given how elite he is.

Malleolo won the week and he's only 175.

He is will also deadlift with his back bent over like a rainbow. He always has and probably always will.

I've always had a weak deadlift, to the point where I could squat more than I could deadlift for a period of about 4 months. I'm 5' 6" and much heavier than Bridges (but also a lot fatter). 1 year isn't really that much time to just pile-on more deadlift pounds that can also translate over to doing a ton of reps, too.

I said it before in some other thread, I can open lumberjack 20 unbroken. The last time I did 5/3/1 deadlifts, at 315, I hit 17 reps. I only scored 106 in the last open workout because my lower back was fried. It was either use poor form or just take long breaks. I went in the first wave at one of the local gyms and some people were pretty surprised with my results (myself included).

Deadlifts/Cleans/Snatches remind me of a system of pulleys or using a crowbar to pry something free. Do you want to use an 8" crowbar or a 14" crowbar? Both can get the job done, but chances are the longer lever is going to be easier.
