My coach's guess was a simple 5 min AMRAP of burpee box jumps.
All Open WODs are AMRAPs and all Regionals WODs are for time.

405x6 & 20 Burpees
495x3 & 20 Burpees

or the firewalk. that's a good guess.

that would be a very hectic and messy wod, with people changing that much weight out. that is a lot of 45# plates to use. too complicated.

My guess is that the Thrusters will be HEAVY this year in a ladder, still don't need tons of plates , maybe up to 225# for the elite

Re: Any guesses on 14.2

They usually have some single modality workout early on as well. In 2011 it was the 5 minutes clean and jerk (thruster); or was it 7 minutes? Then the snatch workout in groups of 30's. Wonder if we'll see something similar again.

Re: Any guesses on 14.2

Read something that thought they'll stay away from clean and jerks because so many people used C&Js for 14.1. So if that's true and you also assume they'll go heavy then their options are fairly limited thrusters, deadlifts, OHS or some form of shoulder to overhead.

Two low percentage assumptions to render a less than exact guess....yea science!!!

I would think if they stay away for C&J's for the reason you list then they will probably stay away for any similar movement...thrusters, STO, ect.... And I stick by what I've said multiple times, we won't see OHS in the open again (which means it's pretty much guaranteed to show up).

Re: Any guesses on 14.2

There is quite a pattern. I'm waiting for someone to create a program with some advanced algorithm hahah.

Here is the master move list for the opens so far:
Snatch, burpee, thruster, pullup, s2o, t2b, DU, box jump, MU, wall ball, C&J, deadlift, push-up, overhead squat

There can't be much else, because it isn't consistent or viewable in a camera. Only thing new that could be added is KB work or HSPU. I think we will see a KB swing for the first time this year.

Here is my logic!
Gotta have the basics that everyone loves... so we will see box jumps, burpees, wall balls.
Gotta have bar gymnastics... so we will see t2b or k2e
Gotta hit the basic lifts... so we will see some type of squat or pull from the ground
Have to start easy and hit the heavier / higher skilled ones later on.

Based on all that, my prediction for 14.2 is: amrap12 9 deadlifts, 12 burpees, 15 wall ball shots

Re: Any guesses on 14.2

I wonder if they would add a kettle bell swing when it wasn't covered in the judges course in any form whatsoever. I would imagine a lot of inconsistency in the application of those standards.

Re: Any guesses on 14.2

KB swing standard is pretty easy to say, maybe not so much to judge. Like any other overhead movement, requires full hip and knee extension, arms locked out, weight when overhead is in line with the shoulder, hip and knee. The additional piece is just that the kettlebell be straight up as well (bottom of the KB facing the sky). But, I think it can be tricky: what if it's 1 degree short of that, or 2 degrees? In the heat of the WOD, it may be hard to judge definitively.
