14.1 Strategy

Now that 14.1 is announced
10-minute AMRAP:
30 double-unders
15 power snatches, 75 / 55 lb.

What will your strategy be?
I will try to do the first round or two unbroken but I think after that I will break it up into 8 reps, 5 second break, 7 reps. I will try to keep that up as long as possible eventually towards the end I'll probably be breaking each set of 15 snatches into 3 5 rep sets with a 5 sec break. What about you guys?
Any advice?

Re: 14.1 Strategy

*Unless you were at the Games, you're probably not strong enough to muscle snatch it. Switch to a power snatch before you feel like you need to
*Don't be afraid of a planned rest of 20+ seconds. A ton of people will burn themselves out around minute 3-4, I know I did in 2011. After my third round, I'm going to take a little breather, shake things out, water up, then calmly resume
*3 sets of 5 snatches is probably better than 2 sets of 8-7 snatches. Your forearms will be on fire either way, the more often you can shake them out the better (note: this only applies if you have someone to hold you accountable to getting right back on the bar when it's time)

Re: 14.1 Strategy

Since it's G2O, I think it might be better for me to muscle clean & press the weight, especially once I have to break the snatches. Snatches tend to smoke me and I think I'd cycle the C&P option faster. I can do Grace about 3 times faster than Isabel.

wildly inaccurate here. I am not a games level competitor. Not even close. I'm talking not even within the top 1000 of my region in the OPEN. Lacking too much skill stuff (HSPU efficiency, DUs, MUs, etc.) It is a pretty darn easy muscle snatch for me. This is with a 130 lb Snatch (horrible shoulder mobility in that lift and OH Squat only.)

I thought I'd test it, in ready for bed clothes (no shoes, no warmup, etc.) by walking into my gym. 3 rep Muscle Snatch and it felt like a PVC pipe. Thats for me, so anyone with any decent Crossfit ability should be able to Muscle Snatch it.

The bottleneck is the sprint vs. pace aspect of it. Its a lot of reps, all out and obvious fatigue will set in. It did for them and they are crazy strong. It isn't a matter of weight though. 75lbs is super light. So...strength is not an issue.

Talking Re: 14.1 Strategy

I did 14.1 tonight. Did the first 2 rounds in just over 2 minutes. 3rd round was almost 2 minutes. By round 4 I was tripping up to start the double under multiple times. One time 3 times that chewed up close to 20 seconds. Wish I just took a 10 second blow to shake things out. One I got going on the double unders I was fine. Just starting them was the problem. End up with a score of 266 (4 reps shy of 6 rounds). I know that I can get 6 rounds and with a little more patience before I start double unders, onto some snatches in the 7th round. I would consider myself a top 20% CrossFitter. The snatches were light enough. I went unbroken on those the first three rounds, mostly just muscle snatches. Shooting for 305 now. 39 more reps is a crap load of spots on the leader board.

Re: 14.1 Strategy

I will be doing 14.1 on Saturday, but I messed around with it today doing a 5 minute AMRAP at close to 100 percent. I did 3 rounds and 9 DUs in 5 minutes. After doing the first round unbroken I broke the rest down like this

30 DUs
10 Snatches
5 Clean/Press

Seemed a little bit easier with Clean and press, but tough on the shoulders, especially when getting back to DU's. I might do another 5 min practice this evening.

NOTES:

-Grip gets tough after second round (YOU MUST Hook Grip)
-Switching to clean/press is better than letting the bar sit on the ground
-Try to rest minimum five seconds

That is why you have a plan ''b'' and I have a plan ''c'' for most workouts.
