What would be a good length for a guy who is 5'8?

Re: Jump rope length for double unders

Most places recommended adding 3ft to your height.

Depends on you proportions and personal preference to a degree...

Stand on the middle of the rope and pull both handles towards your shoulders.

End of handles at tops of shoulders is a safe place to start.

End of handles at armpit height is generally pretty normal.

End of handles at nipples is pretty short, but may be better for faster speeds.

Experiment a little, just remember you can always cut more off, but it is hard to put back on. I think my rope is cut just a wee bit shorter than "armpit length".

Re: Jump rope length for double unders

Once you've measured and start jumping, LISTEN to the sound of the rope. If it's smacking the floor every time, it's too long. It should be a light sound, or just a swish. If it's too short, it will feel like your feet are getting in the way.

Speed rope vendors:
Rogue
Again Faster
Jump N Rope

Do a google search for more.

Re: Jump rope length for double unders

I learned DUs with my cheap, old leather/rawhide style rope-an old walmart purchase from way back I believe.

I just got a speed rope for Christmas and it makes DUs easier. It is also a cheapie, though. The rope is a dense, flexible plastic of some type. Should be able to find at most sporting goods shops.

If you want a "nice" speed rope, I would go with Christopher's suggestions.

Re: Jump rope length for double unders

The Rage rope is my favorite. It feels lighter than any other rope I've tried.
