My DIY Outdoor Climbing Tower

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my latest bit of DIY fun. Maybe someone can draw on this to have some fun in their backyard too. This is my outdoor tower. It has a 6 foot pull up bar, a 8 foot pull up bar, Rogue metal rings with the competition straps hanging from a 12 foot bar, and a 20 foot manila climbing rope 18 feet above ground. The other picture shows my neutral grip pull up station with dip attachment

The only things that costed money was the rings and the rope. I got all the schedule 40 pipe for free from work. It was extra stuff that was torn out of a prison years ago. I had trouble with the rope climbs at my last Spartan Race, so I decided I needed to figure out a way to hang a rope at home. I figured while I was at it I should also make it so I could hang rings high enough to practice muscle ups. I'm doing good on the rope, but I still have a long way to go on the muscle ups. Overall I love this thing. Its so much fun!

Holy crap, that looks good!

How far do you have them into the ground?

Thanks! They're about 3 - 3 1/2 feet in the ground on the tower. I was trying for 4 feet but, there was some serious roots in the ground. The pull up station is 2 feet in the ground.

Nice!

I'm looking to doing something similar as I have a low(ish) ceiling in the garage.

Re: My DIY Outdoor Climbing Tower

That was my problem as well Steven. The ceiling is just over 8 feet tall in my garage. I highly recommend something like this if you can pull it off in your backyard. It's awesome fun!

I wish I knew how to weld... I have a bunch of galvanized aluminum poles. I wonder how hard it would be to build something like that that.

Re: My DIY Outdoor Climbing Tower

I'm looking to make something extremely similar in my backyard with lumber, I can get 19ft beams for about $35 a pop, which isn't terrible. How sturdy is that in the ground? Does it sway much?

Re: My DIY Outdoor Climbing Tower

Would you mind giving me the dimensions for the pipe you used for this? I have a welder and space to do this, but I'm not sure what kind of pipe I should use.
