For those who don't recognize the name, Aspartame is the prime substance of most popular sweeteners today.

I stumbled upon this after trying to determine how safe or hazardous my chewing gum habit is. (One of many ingredients in sugarless chewing gum is aspartame).

Alexander,
Check it:

Some (not all) of the references found within the links you posted are dubious at best... as is some of the science. In my opinion, aspartame is not 1/10th as bad as the fanatics would like you to believe. Remember, "All substances are poisons, there are none that are not, it is the dose that differentiates a poison from a remedy."

It is understandable that you (and others) may still be worried. In that case, stay away from colas, don't chew gum, and don't swallow your toothpaste. Colas are ****e, gum serves no real purpose, and toothpaste has no protein.. so these adaptations sould be easy. :-)

This will probably turn into a war. Every internet board eventually has an Aspartame war.

I'll throw out a couple links on the aspartame-is-okay side:

http://www.greenfacts.org/aspartame/level-1.htm#1

Usually within five minutes of this post an aspartame detractors will respond, alluding to the enormous power of Monsanto and the huge conspiracy and cover up that they have orchestrated.

I contend that if Monsanto isn't making nearly enough off aspartame to make this worthwhile, even if they were/are an evil corporate empire. For the kind of cash that conspiracy would take, you could colonize Mars.

Let's see if I read you correctly-Are you saying there's a Monsanto conspiracy to occupy Mars?
