just wondering what the major pros and cons are when comparing green tea and coffee?

which has more caffine?

which has more antioxidants?

which one is "better" for you?

and comments or input is appreciated!

thanks!

Green tea has 1/3 the caffeine as regular coffee(based on equal ammounts)

A while back, I posted about coffee and Robb said that the antioxidant profile of coffee in the form of fresh ground makes green tea look laughable. I researched that myself, and found the same claim, but also found that cocoa has not more, but different antioxidants that both coffee and tea lack.

I think getting both is the best. Whether it is coffee only one day, green tea only the next day. Or both the same day, cycling them differently.

Green tea makes you pee!

Cheers

About 6 months ago I switched from drinking coffee to tea. There was a time when I never thought I would be able to give up coffee. I drank several pots a day and loved it. I even worked out on nothing but a token muffin and lots of coffee. Performance was marginal, but I could get away with it because my idea of a work out was no way near as intense as the WOD.
Now I drink a cup, or two of black tea on waking. Sometimes I even forget to make tea. Caffeine is no longer a priority in my life, and I no longer get the empty jittery feeling on my way to work. I think I could give it up completely if I had to, but tea is a pleasure to drink.
If you want to wean yourself off of caffeine, tea is a great intermediate step. I did not suffer from any headaches or symptoms associated with caffeine withdrawal, and I know my caffeine intake is much lower. With the WOD and better eating habits, I almost always feel energized.
I don't know which (coffee of tea) has more antioxidants, but I know drinking tea probably has more benefit to cost. I know that green tea has less caffeine than black tea, and black tea has less caffeine than coffee.

I take sort of a CrossFit approach: I drink black coffee, black tea (about 7 varieties), Oolong tea, Green Tea, Peppermint Tea, and eat chocolate. Cycle through regularly.

Check out Chocamine (look at www.beyond-a-century.com).

NEW! CHOCAMINE(tm) AVAILABLE AGAIN!!! is a cocoa extract that has the taste, aroma, and health benefits of chocolate standardized to the stimulating, thermogenic, mood & performance enhancing ingredients including 12% theobromine, 8% caffeine, theophyline & PEA. Promotes energy, fat burning, suppresses appetite, improves performance, and is a sexual stimulant - especially for women. Many users report an euphoric feeling. It was an instant hit here at BAC. A recent study showed theobromine to be an effective cough suppressant. Dose is 500-1000mg (1/4-1/2tsp) 1-3x/day taken plain in water, sweetened with stevia or xylitol, with coffee for hi-powered mocha, or any way you can use chocolate. Chocamine(tm) is a trademark of New World Enterprises, Inc. 100 grams, $12.00 Code 880.0

Now, consider this: Fresh ground espresso (which minimizes the caffiene while maximizing the anti-oxidents), frothed milk, and Chocamine. It's a delicious and buzzy combination. A treat, really.

For everyday drinking I like yerba mate in the morning and green tea after lunch. The mate can be brewed more than once, and after I get home from work I find that the second run through the mate gives me a nice, mellow, enjoyable tea.

Interesting Website. It has 5-HTP, which has done miracles for me. That coffee blend you mentioned is tempting!

What I like to do is mix vanilla Whey protein in a blender with ice, and it turns into sort of a foam. I spoon some of the foam on top of freshly ground coffee and it is just like something from starbucks. (except for the 870 calories of refined sugar per 16 ounce serving!)

Cheers
