How many eggs is too many?
I adopted a "mostly Paleo" diet in March 2011. Since that time, I have eaten three eggs, usually fried or scrambled in butter, for breakfast every morning. Is this way too many eggs per week?? I know Cordain recommends limiting yourself to 6 per week...but I'd like to hear what others think. The last thing I want to do is wreck my cholesterol and cardiovascular health in a misguided attempt to avoid "diseases of affluence."

Re: How many eggs is too many?
I haven't found a 'too' many yet with 2-4 a day
![]() When I was raising my own Egg's (+protein/fresh) and had some blood work done all my levels came back great. My 'creatine' was a few .x points high but I also ate a lot of red meat Joys of raising cattle & chickens. |

Same here, 3-4 a day, usually 2-3 yolks. Bloodwork is great. I get them from a local, really nice to see the chickens you're getting the eggs from. Less than a week old, all different sizes, and the yolks change colors throughout the year as the chickens' diet changes. I am now as much of an egg snob as I am a beer snob. ![]() |

Suburbs FTL ![]() And to add, 3 whole eggs a day. Just make sure they are organic, cage free if you buy from the store. The omega-3+ is also beneficial. I would not be able to live without eggs and I can't stand to hear that eating eggs everyday is bad for you. If you have bad cholesteral already then yes, don't eat egg yolks every day. But for those of us who are healthy and active enough to enjoy the pleasures of, leave us the **** alone. |

Re: How many eggs is too many?
Cordain has since backed off from some of his early stuff about the "evils" of eggs and arachiodonic acid. Plus, different bodies react to different foods in different ways...the only way to be sure is to get some bloodwork done, then eat 3-4 eggs a day for awhile, get a retest, then eat fewer or no eggs for awhile and see what happens. As long as you don't make any other major changes in terms of food intake you should be able to see what effect the eggs have on you.
I've eaten 4-5 eggs every morning for most of the last 3 years, and my last bloodwork came up with very favorable cholesterol numbers. Any processed crap you eat is likely to have a much bigger impact on your health than how many eggs you eat in the morning. |

Agreed!

My wife and I have gone to great lengths to source out high quiality eggs and meat. We really look into the farming practices very closely. Especially with eggs, since commercial chickens live in terrible conditions (IMO). We look for eggs from healthy chickens, they are better for you, and I find that they taste better too. I eat 2-5 eggs a day, they are a great snack - a hard boiled egg during the drive back to work from the gym....delicious! |

Re: How many eggs is too many?
Feed the chickens oyster shells and their own egg shells to help. Makes the shell stronger and you'll also have a higher protein comp for your eggs.
A little 1lb bag of crushed oyster shells last my 4 chickens like 3-4 months. Also had one chicken who's eggs were 60% of the time a double yok ![]() |

And I also agree with the shell hardness. Just think about the Bald Eagle and the results of DDT on their egg shell consistency. One of the reasons why they almost went extinct and since the removal of the pesticide their population has increased removing them from the endangered species list. Yay! ![]() Yet to find a "double-yolk." Someday... |
