Has anyone ever experienced or heard of Post workout irritability
Hello Crossfit World! Very long time lurker, 1st time poster here.
A little background, I'm upper 40s, 5'10", 175lbs,not an athlete and not super fit or strong, but for a guy my age I'm not terribly out of shape. I eat fairly well but not strict and I move around and do some weights and a little jogging, a few Mainsite WODs etc but I am not competitive or super consistent in anything either. A few months ago I decided to give CF a real try and joined a local box. The workouts kicked my butt and it truly was the hardest I have worked out since high school football or basic training back in the 80s. I was only at the box for a month due to the unreasonably high cost but that is beside the point and a whole other topic. But anyway, my question is have any of you experienced an inordinant level of irritability or even outright hostility/aggression after workouts or have you ever heard of such a thing. I am normally the most mellow and even-tempered person in the world but while I was going to the CF gym I would come home and I would be a complete A-hole. I'm really quite serious and not kidding around. I would basically feel fairly drained and like I had worked hard but I didn't necessarily feel bad per se. But at some point my wife or kids would ask me something or try to talk to me and I would literally feel like I was going to explode and tear their heads off. There were times I would feel enraged and would actually get goose bumps on my arms and my scalp would feel tinggley(sp?) and I felt like I was going to explode with rage. It was a miserable feeling and it was something I had virtually no control over. I never got physical but I sure felt like and I did shoot my mouth off a few too many times and about had to sleep on the couch a few times. It took me a couple weeks to realize the pattern but it was definately only on the evenings that I went to the box. Has anyone else ever experienced this or heard of it. Any ideas? I haven't had it happen since I stopped going to the box. I've had some good workouts since then but haven't worked out as hard as then either and I haven't had an episode since then. Any ideas? |

Re: Has anyone ever experienced or heard of Post workout irritability
During a workout, which is normally done in my garage gym, if people bother me with mundane questions while I am in the middle of a metcon or lift. I am highly irritable and prone to snap.
After the workout though I am back to my normal self, that is unless I had a crappy wod. Which leads to minor irritability but nothing comparative to what you were experiencing. Not directly related to your situation but hopefully it might help a little |

Could be due to reduced blood sugar post-workout. Do you take anything for recovery after your Unreasonably Expensive WoDs??

I'll second the "during my workout don't mess with me attitude" but afterwards...i've worked out so hard, I just want my PWO shake, and to relax and be all mellow!

I feel for you, but not to that extent. I would atribue that to rising testosterone levels, but you should probably see a doctor. Seriously.

I've seen similar and was a thyroid issue.
Do you also sweat excessively and have a metabolism that behaves differently than expected? |

Wondering what sweat excessively is defined as.
I sweat lots, I usually carry around spare tshirts, because I sweat through the underarms of my shirts fast. |
