Ab device?

In Monday's WOD video, what is the ab/back pad that they are utilizing?

Have not seen the video, but most likely an ab mat.

It's an abmat. They're pretty cool to have but when I'm at work I use a small pillow and it seems to work almost as well.

What do the abmats do that a standard military situp doesn't?
