Post-WOD extreme dizziness and nausea.

Hi,

Did this WOD last night;

4 rounds of 15 x Ring Pullups, 15 x GHD Sit-ups in 9:12*

I then developed some real problems post-WOD. Had a slight headache immediately after the WOD. Then about 10mins later, I lay down to ice my shoulder and suddenly I felt horrible. Couldn't move because of extreme nausea and dizziness (room spinning like I have never experienced before). I tried to sit up after 20mins and puked violently. Over the next few hours I managed to improve enough to eat and then sleep, but was still very dizzy. I'm still experiencing some dizziness now 15hours later. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance!

*wasn't a max effort met-con as I was trying to get all pull-ups unbroken. So heart rate wasn't flying. That amount of GHD situps is not excessive for me, and I don't have any abdominal swelling, dark urine or excession muscle soreness.

Re: Post-WOD extreme dizziness and nausea.

What did you eat and drink before, and how long before?

How did you feel before the workout? Any chance you might be catching something? I'll bet congestion plus GHD situps could really mess with your inner ear.

Katherine
3hrs Pre WOD: Some rabbit and some fish for lunch. Felt satisfied
30mins Pre WOD: Chunk of pineapple and some berries. Not much.
Hydration: I drank water consistently throughout the day, ~2litres

I felt normal before and during the workout. I wasn't pushing for a super quick time, so breathing and heart rate were perhaps a little lower than a normal metcon.

Last week I was mildly sick with some congestion, but I would say I have been fully recovered for at least a few days now. I was thinking some kind of vertigo/motion sickness issue may be involved, but I have never had anything similar in any circumstance.

Sounds a lot like vertigo - I suffered it once. Truly horrible feeling.
Still, I'd be seeing a doctor if I were you because those symptoms sound very concerning and not something you want some twit on the internet diagnosing!

Thanks for the comments Jon. I'm 100% now - it took a full 24hours - and I'm going to be monitoring carefully for any repeat symptoms and if they appear it's straight to the Doc.

Re: Post-WOD extreme dizziness and nausea.

Should it ever happen again, you may want to research benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). I get bouts of it occasionally. It's truly an awful feeling.

The inversion positions of the GHD's and then laying down flat could have effected loose crystals in the inner ear canals bringing on the dizziness.

Good to hear it has passed for you...
