BestBelts - weightlifting belt

I placed an order for a belt with BestBelts and I wanted to share my experience with the community here.

I talked to Dean Best via e-mail for a few days prior to placing my actual order, we exchanged probably 20 when all was said and done. He helped me decide on a belt (athletic belt, double prong, soft, royal blue). I placed my order on Saturday night, he sent me an e-mail half and hour after I placed my order and said he had received the order and it would ship Monday. I got a shipping confirmation in the early AM hours on Monday, the belt arrived early this afternoon (Wednesday) as promised. Just a refreshing experience as a customer.

Now, as far as the belt is concerned, holy cow - this thing is beautiful! and it's a tank! the craftsmanship of the belt is remarkable, definitely one of the nicer belts I have ever had the pleasure of seeing up close. Just looking at the belt has be pumped to run into the box and throw some weight around!

I recently received a belt from Dean, and talked to him on the phone prior to ordering. Definitely a top-notch operation they have going. The belt is beautiful. I'm still getting used to it (never worn one before), but it is very well made. I also got some leather "coasters" made from the leftovers lol

Re: BestBelts - weightlifting belt

Great belt and service for me too. My waist is about a 32" which put me right in between their small (30-32) and medium (33-36) so I emailed Dean and told him about my situation, and he made me an in-between size belt with 32" as the center hole so I've got 2-3" to spare each way. It took some work to break it in but fits me great now. My girlfriend also ordered a belt from them and it turned out to be too big so she sent it back and he cut it to size and had it back to us in about 4 days, even shipping all the way from NC to CA.

Those just blew me away. They could have easily just thrown the material away; but no, they make you coasters.

I even use mine.

Agree with everyone here. Spoke with Dean on the phone for about half an hour before ordering. Best customer service I've ever experienced.

Re: BestBelts - weightlifting belt

What is the consensus on belts?

IF I remember correctly, there was an interesting article by Mark Sisson where he talked about gloves and belts essentially fooling us into have a false sense of the weights we could lift safely....and suggested training was better done using no belt/no gloves and less weight...

Any thoughts?

Since I started focusing more on CF Football and the strength WODs in addition to the daily WODS I've often though a belt would be nice to have.

Re: BestBelts - weightlifting belt

I'm not sure what the "consensus" is on belts per se, but I do know this, after 17 months of CrossFit, unless we're talking move standards, I'm doing what works for me. I feel like I've heard the positives, the negatives and the in between on just about everything and it ultimately boils down to how it works for you - or at least that's my opinion.

I don't personally use gloves because I don't want to diminish my grip strength. As far as a weight belt though, going for a heavy 5 on front squats, if I feel that it helps me I'm going to wear it.

No sense in rehashing what they say here and here and here (WFS)
