Freezer size for quarter cow?

Hello,

I am going to buy a quarter cow from a local farmer. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on an appropriate freezer to store this. Here is the freezer I was looking at:

Thank you for your help.

It'll be tight but if you pack it right you should be okay. I have a 14 and just bought a quarter. Fills it about half way up.

Hope this helps.

Go bigger if you have the $ and space, you'll find many more items to buy in bulk that will save you lots of money in the future.

You want it as full as possible at all times. Once everything gets frozen it costs nearly nothing to run as long as airspace is minimized.

7 should do it, unless you're going to increase your use of bulk meats.

Re: Freezer size for quarter cow?

Here is the recommendation from the farm that my wife and I are planning on buying from.

From the bottom of thier FAQ page:
"How much freezer space will you need? A beef will require a 5 cu ft freezer; beef will require an 8 cu ft freezer; a whole beef will require 12 cu ft freezer."

Re: Freezer size for quarter cow?

I have a large model, don't know cu ft, but it's about 6' long, 3.5' wide, 3.5' deep. To fill space we wash out empty milk containers and fill with water to take up space. It lowers electricity usage, and there's always ice on hand for filling coolers when needed.
