Body fat %

I apologize if already covered thread but what is gold standard besides isolation water device for calculating BF% ? Calipers are OK but limited and IR seems not accurate.

Re: Body fat %

This is covered: do a search. You may find it.

But the consensus is that all methods are flawed in some way or another.

The best answer I go when I asked this years ago:
Mirror test
Look in the mirror, if you look fat...your fat.

If you diet right and exercise regularly, you will see this improve.

Someone also posted pictures of people and gave estimated body fat. If you find those pictures compare yourself to the pictures.

My opinion, just get started. You will see results. And if you use any method, realize they are flawed and are not the end all.

Re: Body fat %

Even the margin of error on isolation water devices is huge. 6 point Caliper tests done properly yield close enough results.

Re: Body fat %

Thanks-my body especially midline has changed dramatically since August 09 when I started and went from 192# to 174# and 35 to 31 waist. Just curious.

Re: Body fat %

Check with a local university's kinesiology or exercise science department to see if they have a bod pod. Hydrostatic weighing used to be the gold standard until the bod pod was invented. It looks kind of like Mork's egg from Mork and Mindy but it is much easier to participate in the test compared to hydrostatic testing. It may be hard to find a bod pod as they run close to
$50,000.
