There are structural reasons to be careful, however. A hole is a stress-riser, so depending on the load and impact and material, there can be SOME risk.

Plus, that is a heck of a lot of holes to drill.

I think you would be better off figuring out a way to use the existing slots. Some kind of bar with appropriate welding sure seems the way to go.

Post some pictures or drawings and I will bet that people can come up with useful ideas for you...

Did you have those logos with your last name custom made for you?
Very nice touch!

1/2" solid rod put through 1' 1/4" pipe has held 600lbs for me, so you really don't need holes that big even.

If it was (cheapo) me I'd make catches out of wood that bolted in, spanned a few slots, holding solid rod through pipe, you could use 3/4" rod through 2" thick pipe if you were the nervous type. Basically built my own j-hooks the same way.

I get 1" Solid Round bar for $2/ft. That's pretty cheap.

Hi Gonzalo.

It gets worse than that. I had the logo put on my benches, platform, dumbbells, leg press, leg ext/curl, ... Kind of embarrassing now .

Someday I will post pictures of my gym...
