Followup:

To my immense surprise, either the shoes or my feet seem to be accommodating; there's still some pressure but I did today's WoD (a few 400m runs) with no pain or undue pressure. So I think I'll be keeping these, although I'm still a bit concerned and may in time get a size up with toe-socks for comparison. I'm not 100% sold that they'll continue to stretch and fit as well as I'd like, but it's at least tolerable and comfortable; can't test on longer runs yet since even the transition from Nike Frees to the VFFs is a bit rough on the calves (and I don't run as much as I should, because I hate it).
