Bitter Taste in Mouth
I have recently gone back to a low-carb, high protein diet. I have lost 13# in about 5 weeks. I had kale for the first time last night as a side dish from an Atkins receipe. I didn't boil it (the package stated it was washed and chopped) and willted it in a wok with onions and pepper. The taste was very bitter, especially in the vein. I had a protein snach last night and breakie this morning and the same bitter taste is in the back of my mouth on the tongue. No taste was present before consuing the kale. I am wondering if this is the kale or the diet (ketosis or keto acidosis).
Should I be concerned about anything or is it just a bad taste? Thanks. |

Kale is a bitter green; braising it slowly will help that flavor. I usually fold it over and cut out the vein, just eating the leaves. Bacon fat is kale's friend too.
If ketosis leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, I haven't heard about it, but I'm not an expert either-anyone with knowledge on that topic please chime in. |

could be both especially in combination.
But my sister-in-law is a vegetarian and has an awesome recipe for Kale or any bitter greens... here is her recipe on her blog. ( sorry could not get it to link) http://postmodernfeeding.blogspot.co...-for-kale.html I never ate bitter greens until I met her... also her Brussels Sprouts recipe is to die for! |
