Pre workout supplements for Crossfit
Does anyone use any specific 'pre-workout' supplement before a WOD or session. I have been using NO Explode by BSN recently and have noticed a buzz but that may be due to the caffeine as I sometimes get the kick if I simply have an expresso pre workout.
What do you guys use if anything? John |

Coffee, only if it's going to be a morning workout. Otherwise, it's chewing gum and water for me.

Haha, I'd be scared s******** to take NO Xplode before a CF workout. The closest thing I did was taking SuperPump before sets of 20 rep squats. BAD idea lol. Felt like I was gonna puke for the next 3 hours.

Tried Noxplode but also read that these supps don't add (or can't add) enough nitric oxide to do you any good. Working with purple wrath right now. If you find something, let me know. Some food that would go down easy and tend to stay down would be good, as would a drink for preworkout...I don't like to feel too full....us old guys can't work out with a 3 course meal inside of us, and don't want to screw up our sleep waiting to come down off of a pre-workout drink!

Re: Pre workout supplements for Crossfit
I think most of these pre workout supps contain caffeine and niacin which explains a slight buzz and tingle. As I sometimes workout at 6am I was looking for something other than the usual whey with a coffee shortly after to fuel my workout. I could get up at 4am to eat but not keen on that idea. Benefits of sleeping outweigh the food.
In the UK our drug testing is stringent (I am a natural bodybuilder) so I have to be careful not to use ephedrine based products or any pro hormones. I have never heard of purple wrath or whatever its called. who makes that? |

Re: Pre workout supplements for Crossfit
Controlled Labs makes Purple Wraath. It's an EAA/BCAA type supplement.
Personally I wake up and sometimes have a 5 hour energy shot thing before my workout - but I have found it makes my heart beat like crazy and hinders my metcon performance. Really wakes me up, though. I have some NO-Xplode but it just makes me queasy (before lifting). Haven't tried using it before a metcon but I can already predict what would happen.. |
