The Best iPhone App

Hi guys,

I've read through posts about the Crossfit apps for the iPhone such as As Rx'd or Fight Gone Mobile. Are the apps really worth the money (whether it's $1.99 or $9.99)? Which one would you recommend? Or how much is really worth it?

Sorry if I'm creating a similar post, I didn't see this particular topic. Thanks!

Re: The Best iPhone App

Be careful what you pay for. Some of them simply pull the WOD from Crossfit.com via an RSS feed and then let you post back to the site from your iPhone.

We are actually creating one right now that will hopefully be everything a CrossFitter will need when they train on their own (not an an Affiliate).

Got any suggestions on what you think would make the perfect app?

Re: The Best iPhone App

I am on my iphone right now. I have full access to the site because I created an icon for it. There is a free app you can get that gives you the wod of the day and if you ask for more info it takes you to the site. I would not buy one unless the money acutually went to a good cause. It will be interesting to see what comes out.

Now if we could get Every Second Counts on the iPhone that would be the *****!

Re: The Best iPhone App

First off, Lionel, nice icon!

Second I use the WOD app but usually have to go to the site for demos since I am somewhat of a newbie.

A few things I would be looking for in an app:

Posts to Comments
Scaled workouts
Possible Journal excerpts
drawn diagrams of WOD (so you wouldn't have to go check the site)

Thats just a few off the top of my head I can think of.

But for all intensive purposed the WOD app serves me just fine.

Re: The Best iPhone App

Fight Gone Mobile has a decent interval timer which has paid for itself for me. The first version wasn't so great, but they released an update that gave more options for intervals.

1. Post WOD
2. Ability to post times/comments to comments on main page
3. Archive of standard exercises
4. Archive of standard workouts
5. Built in timer - Tabata, standard
6. Ability to log personal records to the phone - maybe have a database to show where you rank but would be nice to at least be able to log max weights or times for metcon workouts. Would also be cool if it automatically totaled crossfit total and displayed on the main page
7. Random tips - nutrition, exercise etc.. something to read when I'm bored
8. Crossfit Faq - for quick reference to questions while in the gym

Great feedback Justin. I will make sure your desires are on my list of things to consider. I believe we're about to make some serious momentum on the app, so I'll keep you posted.

Re: The Best iPhone App

@ryan tan - As one of the developers of As Rx'd, I just wanted to mention that we've cut the price to $4.99.

That hopefully lowers the barrier for a number of people. Traditionally, the price is the complaint.

@justin - we hit most of your features and are always open to new ideas.

Thanks.
