Where are the pull up bars in your home town?

I travel quite a bit and am constantly looking for places to do pullups. Please help me compile a list so that it could be compiled into an iPhone app someday.....

These are the ones I frequent the most when not at home....

Pull Up Bars

Honolulu:
Kahala: Kahala School/ Kahala Community Park on Kilauea Ave (across from Kahala Mall)
Kahala: Wilson Elementary School (along the back fence) Good for tall people
Kapiolani Community College: (Diamond Head national Monument Side) Tallest bar has been 'torn' down for more than 1 year
Kapiolani Park: (Across from Kaimana Beach) Shorter and med heights...There is also a trellis that pullups can be done on made out of pipe in the small park at Kaimana beach.

Palo Alto/ Menlo Park/ Atherton
Menlo Atherton High School (near Basketball Courts/ Running Track) Tall
Holbrook Palmer Park (Running Trail) Medium, Tall...tall bar is kind of loose
Train Tracks Running Trail across from Burgess Park, Tall....

Re: Where are the pull up bars in your home town?

I am not sure how well this thread is going to workout for you as far as a Pull up bar directory but I feel your pain. Everyone always puts out all these great bodyweight workout lists that generally includes PU's for 50% or more of the workouts. I don't know if these people actually travel all that much because finding a good place to do pullups is always challenging. Even if you are lucky enough to be in the vicinity of a playground or park, they don't even build plain monkey bar type equipment like they used to. All the new stuff is usually some really funky shaped design or super large diameter jungle gym piece of climbing equipment that is not ideal for just plain vanilla pullups or kips.

I don't know if you will ever find yourself out this way but in Metairie, La which is just outside of New Orleans:

Lafreniere Park

3000 Downs Blvd.

Metairie, LA 70003

Thanks!

I do get out that way, but usually end up sneaking into the gym at Tulane to play basketball....

24th and Willamette: Eugene, Oregon (sturdy group of pull up bars)
29th and Amazon Parkway near the off leash dog park: Eugene, Oregon (a little wobbly and tilting a few degrees)

Doesn't almost every park with a kids play area have something to do pullups on?

I think we have more then the normal amount of parks down here though.

Re: Where are the pull up bars in your home town?

This is great information to have, I just moved within Ottawa and have been scoping out my new neighbourhood for exactly this reason!

I don't think a thread is a great place to hold this sort of information though... but a Google Map sure is.

I've created one that people should be able to add their info to, I think a Google Account is required though.

Let me know any comments you may have.

I went looking for the pull up bars near Burgess Park today, but I didn't see any. Are they on the same side of the tracks as Burgess Park? By the running trail, do you mean the dirt trail that runs along the track on the Burgess Park side of the track, but on the track side of the road?

Tim
