What's with fran?????

Hey guys,

I gotta ask what's the deal with fran. its a great workout but why does everyone seem to put some much stock in that wod. We seem to be obsessed with fran and fran times and heavy fran and now flying fran. There are so many better workouts imho. Like fight gone bad or murph....now those are F***ing killers. Not that fran isn't a killer but it seems to be the holy grail of crossfit workouts for some odd reason.
I guess i'm just wondering why so much focus on this workout. Any insight would be great.

I think people love/hate it because it's so simple on paper - 45 thrusters/chinups - how hard can it be? And then it completely demolishes you within 3 minutes.

Re: What's with fran?????

I have mentioned this before. Training CrossFit is like training year round for a military, police, or fireman fit test. Fran is basically the CrossFit fit test.

Now before everyone jumps on me, let me say I like Crossfit workouts. They are fun and shake up the monotony of Powerlifting or O'Lifting. But I am just telling you how it is.

I've wondered the same thing myself...and agree with both Tony and Brian.

I think if I ever met a random crossfitter that would be our icebreaker...

"Nice to meet you! What's your Fran time?"

Agreed. It's the CrossFit equivilant of bodybuilders' "Whaddaya bench?" For me, it's just such a short, brutal expression of power. Plus, there's just no better way to whoop your own *** so thoroughly in 4 minutes or less.

Yah. And thank GOD it's not like that with the 30 Muscle ups for time...I have a lof of Fran potential too with my short arms and legs.

I'm ok with Fran being the benchmark benchmark.

Fran may not be the hardest WOD, but in the short amount of time it takes to do Fran, it drains you like no other. And of course it is like the others said.

Re: What's with fran?????

my .02

the first few times i did fran it destroyed my muscles but i didnt understand what all the fuss was about, but once i got my times under six minutes i really felt the metcon side of the workout. i think fran is a perfect example of how crossfit never gets easier no matter how conditioned the athlete is.

i still prefer the o-lifts and heavy deadlifting though

Re: What's with fran?????

one of the most anticipated events at the olympics is the 100m dash and the final lasts less than 10 seconds.

Fran is crossfit's 100m dash.
