Arrow Joe Cavazos - Not a girl

So I've still got my old blog at http://www.teamschoolyd.org/schoolyfit (wfs), but while it's great for organizational purposes, it's not so great for helpful input from fellow CrossFitters. So I'll be cross-posting my training results here in the hopes that someone, somewhere, will post a comment.

In mid-August I switched to Brandon Oto's AGT Program (wfs) after following the main page WOD for a year. The main page WOD is great, and I hope to get back to it soon, but right now I have some glaring weaknesses that need addressing, and Brandon's program looked right up my alley.

I've been on the forum for a little over a year, but I'll go ahead and end the introductory post by saying hello.

Hello.

Right, so now that that's over with, I should commence with the logging.

200m kind of sucked because, before I took off, the sprinklers came on and got a big portion of my lane wet, causing me to slow down a bit. But hells yeah on the Snatch. Just a bit away from getting those big 45ís on there.

I know you're on a somewhat modified program, so maybe post your schedule?

Re: Joe Cavazos - Not a girl

Silly me.

My schedule is slightly modified version of Brandon's default layout. Essentially, I replaced the Conditioning portions (long- and short-duration) of the program with CF WODs so I could keep some of the variety and spice that made me love the main page since I got on it. I also gave them their own days so I could tackle them while fresh and at full intensity (since I'm also a fan of the competetive aspect...).

Monday

* Skill Work
* Sprinting
* Olympic Lifting
o Squat Clean and Jerk or Squat Snatch
* Stretching

Tuesday

* Skill Work
* CrossFit WOD
* Stretching

Wednesday

* Skill Work
* Sprinting
* Strength Day 1
o Front Squat 3◊5
o Shoulder Press 3◊5
o Deadlift 1◊5
* Stretching

Thursday

* Rest

Friday

* Skill Work
* Olympic Lifting
o Power Clean and Jerk or Power Snatch
* Strength Day 2
o Back Squat 3◊5
o Weighted Pull-up 3◊5
o Bench Press 3◊5
* Stretching

Saturday

* Skill Work
* CrossFit WOD
* Stretching

Sunday

* Rest

Met a real cool guy at the track today. A former track athlete for University of Houston who is currently trying to walk onto the Houston Texans. Things I learned from him:
  • The Houston Texans suck at recruiting
  • Considering how much the Texans suck at recruiting, theyíre far too snobbish regarding it (no open tryouts)
  • My sprinting form ďainít that bad.Ē
  • But I could use some work keeping my abs tight to get that forward lean
  • I have ďa lot of room for improvement.Ē (thatís PC for ďyouíre slow as hell kidĒ)
  • Some helpful stretches for the hamstrings (I already knew mine are tight, and he noticed that)
  • The importance of not just stretching before and after a workout, but also at other times throughout the day (before bed, after showering, etc.)

What a boon!

Also, my second 50-meters was timed by him, and came in conspicuously low, so Iím not really believing it yet.

Also also, heís actually the one who showed me where 50 meters is on the track. My 50-meter sprints before today have actually been a little short.

Re: Joe Cavazos - Not a girl

Just got word that, because of Hurricane Ike, Rice University (my school) is shutting down from Friday through Sunday. And yet all I can think about is "how will this affect my workouts?" Maybe I should also be worried about how I'm going to eat...

Vanessa - I wondered the same thing! Maybe he just needs that statement to prove that he can keep up with the CF wonder women although he's not a woman?

Re: Joe Cavazos - Not a girl

The journal title is sort of a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the vast difference in popularity between logs of men and those of women.

I've decided to stick it out in Houston. Heading north would be difficult since my stupid car is broken, and I should be using this time for schoolwork anyway. Luckily my dorm's weight room is in the basement, so while I'm cowering in fear from the torrential rains and howling winds I can also be getting in some squats.
