This one, however, is the first challenge that could actually promote rather than hinder progress. Good on ya Charles

I am seriously trying to decide what I need to do for this challenge. Stretching would be awesome but I think routinely logging food and makins sure I am eating enough it probably also high up the priority list...

Stretching, mobility work, and a foam roller will make you feel...umm...I don't know where do go with that. However, I think that you will notice a huge difference in almost every aspect of your life.

Re: Hardcore Elite Challenge

I've got a foam roller and it's easy to stretch when I just make myself do it....so that would be an easy thing to incorporate and probably mucho beneficial for me right now with all the heavy lifting I'll be doing.

Also, the food log will be crucial. I think I'll do both.

Suggestions for time stretching and foam rolling per day?

I just kind grease the groove it. I've got my foam roller in the living room so it's easy to just kinda jump on it and roll around for a while while I watch TV or a movie.

Here's the article that introduced me to foam rolling
http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=475832
It's obviously t-nation so maybe wfs...

I just kind of go through that list for a little bit everyday and then spend any additional time on whatever hurts/needs more work. Stretching after foam rolling seems to work well for me.

If I absolutely had to put a time on it I would say anywhere from 20-40 minutes a day. Just keep in mind that it's not a jam packed session. It's very relaxed and sometimes I'll just spend a couple minutes hanging out with the dog and then getting back into it. Hell, I might end up using the foam roller 5 times in one day. If I walk past it and something hurts, I'll jump on for a minute or two.

Re: Hardcore Elite Challenge

Great idea, working on this side of the coin. I sucked at the squat challenge and crapped out fairly early on.

I just ordered foam roller and cover from this place wfs
http://www.nefitco.com/foam_rollers.html
More variety than Amazon (usually my fave) and better prices. Order a box of them with a friend? I got a firm one. People whined about hardness on Amazon reviews but from what I have read the firmer the better. It is not supposed to feel good.

I had no idea what a foam roller was used for until I saw a video at Againfaster (wfs) on foam rolling - Oh that's what you do with that thing. I got a cover for mine too. The one at the globo gym is grody nasty looking and with dogs in close proximity to my basement gym, mine will be too. Glute ham raises kill my thighs. I am hoping the foam roler will alleviate that pain. If I can somehow roll around on shoulders I will be doing that as well for partial tendon tear. T-nation stuff was very informative - thanks for that too.

Yes I need to stretch more too, all good stuff thanks for the kick in the pants.

You wanna talk about firm? I use a piece of 4 inch PVC for some spots! REALLY gets those knots broken up.

Re: Hardcore Elite Challenge

I haven't gotten a foam roller yet, but I've greatly stepped up my stretching and my sleep over the last week. We'll see what sort of long-term benefits I get, but I think it's helping...

Re: Hardcore Elite Challenge

Alright, foam rolling and stretching for at least one session a day. This should be good.

Also, logging food everyday is going to also be a part of my challenge.

How much are you going to change your diet with your new training schedule?
