I love fruits too much, so I can't do that either. Thanks again, George, for your blog with Paleo recipes. I will post that link along with a few other resources for those of us who are interested in trying new Paleo recipes. I'll be making the Cauliflower Lasagna tomorrow night.

My plan for now is just to eat fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, and nuts. I'm going to stick to buying either fresh or frozen produce, for the most part. I will buy the occassional tomato sauce here and there to simplify. I think this will be very beneficial - I'm stoked.

BTW - I am IF until lunch time, which will be ~16 hours. Then will probably have a small meal of grapes and eggs w/ spinach. Dinner will be green beans, onions, tomatoes, and chicken.

Re: Kick The Sugar/Grains habit challenge

To Clarify: Nobody has to eliminate fruit, dairy or alcohol or caffeine or salt. I probably won't ever take that step. But some people feel the need to take this a step further and eliminate or limit the above foods. So I was just clarifying that eliminating any food or food group EXCEPT grains and sugars is NOT part of this challenge.

That's just crazy talk, IMO.

Same here, I'd be paralyzed without my big sack-o-fruit.

I can definitely live with that.

Quick question: Is there a foul penalty in case (read: when) I backslide on the weekend? Two extra days per cheat or some other sort of guilt-assuaging calculus? 100 burpies? I'm a fan of the weekend cheat and am willing to deal!

Re: Kick The Sugar/Grains habit challenge

I really like this idea and if i was single i would be down 100%. but its hard to make my fiancee eat the paleo diet also.

so i am going to give this my best shot but i am not going to beat myself up over eating some rice with dinner. i am going to allow myself 1 grain a day allowance. if i can avoid the grains then i will.

Re: Kick The Sugar/Grains habit challenge

Already been doing this for nearly 2 years!! very rarely have any grains--perhaps 2x year?? And as for sugar, what is that? Rarely white sugar--perhaps the same 2-3x a year for an occasion--birthday, birth f grandchild party etc....

It's really not hard when you are committed to it! Best of luck to ya all. I also have some recipes in my earlier blog posts....

Re: Kick The Sugar/Grains habit challenge

hmm if I wasn't training for an endurance event I'd think about it... but how would I get through the long training rides without my stash of clif-bars?

Are you guys allowing dried fruits? Because one could technically 'cheat' on this and get a pretty good sugar rush by just munching on some delicous 100% unsweetened dried fruit. Mango is the best, then apricots, then figs... mmm.

good luck to all on the challenge!

Re: Kick The Sugar/Grains habit challenge

Sarena, i agree once u get past the first cuople of weeks it should get very easy. My problem is getting 2 weeks straig without a cheat! those first couple of weeks the cravings can hit you pretty hard!

going to suck it up and get through 21 days tho, i jsut need a couple beers on the weekend thats all, lol!

so do we get a nice cheat meal/day on day 22?

Haha sure. I guess this is pretty personal so everyone just set up your own rules and rewards as appropriate for you. I'm probably going to go for a massage if I do well, and 100 burpees per cheat which do not count towards the burpee challenge.

Thanks for the good lucks Sarena, Laura &Carla!
