The Paleo diet lite...

I'm pretty new to this forum and CF but i noticed very quickly that a lot of people are using the Paleo diet.

I was thinking of doing this but occasionally allowing some of the stuff not accepted in the diet. Not like sugars and the carbs but you know the odd few beans etc...I think dairy is out so the odd yogurt, cheese, bit of milk...

Would it have a huge effect if I allowed the odd thing in my diet?

Also, what books would you recommend about the diet?

Any help would be great.

I suggest (wfs) www.paleodiet.com and don't worry about occassionally not eating Paleo. You won't fall over. Remember the Paleo diet is about choices, its not a prescription for recipes or anything. Its about clean food choices. I supplement my Paleo eating with kefir and yogurt, as well as buckwheat and quinoa.

Re: The Paleo diet lite...

Loren Cordain, the Paleo Diet author, stated something to the effect that if you eat 80% of your calories as paleofoods, you'll derive 80% of the benefit. He also strongly advocates cheats, or eat whatever you want for 1-2 meals per week.

Re: The Paleo diet lite...

Ok, thanks for the info.

I presonally don't agree with cheat days - well, they don't work for me. I prefer a couple of cheat meals. I feel less restricted and don't feel as rough the next day as I would after a whole cheat day...but that's just me.

Thanks again for the advice and info.
