That really depends on what you mean by serious mass gain. Where are you now and where do you want to be? The mot probable answer will be Strating Strength.

How old and how tall are you?

You CAN make those gains on pure CF, but it will take several months, maybe a year. My advice is to buy Starting Strength and do that for 3 months. You should can at least 15lbs then you can switch to CF. At that weight you are likely acking in strength so SS will help you in that area.

Re: Can you gain serious mass on Crossfit?

Only way you can gain serious mass or rather that much is by cutting the metcons to 0 and eating more calories than you burn and strength training 2 or 3 times a week and resting plenty. Doing crossfit 6 times a week will hinder any chance of gaining that much mass. Sure you may gain 3 or 4 lbs o solid muscle over 6 or more months on crossfit but your talking about a long wait. Best bet is strength training + nutrition + sleep. It doesn't have to be starting strength but thats a great place to start though.

Re: Can you gain serious mass on Crossfit?

I gained noticeable mass doing a blend of Strength Training (New Rules of Lifting and Starting Strength) and Crossfit. I typically to do two days of pure strength training and 3 days of metcon workouts from crossfit.

I eat well and sleep long. Just as important as the workouts.

Actually, you couldn't be more wrong. You can easily put on mass while doing the WOD's, metcons and all. It's all about diet. I maintain myself at 165 lbs with about 5-7% bodyfat. I let my diet slip a little right after Easter (too much junk around the house) and put on almost 7 pounds in two weeks.

I'd say do th main page WOD's, and get on the zone. When you plan your zone diet, don't plan for what weight you are, plan for what weight you want to be.
