Flax seeds as porridge (eat like oatmeal)?

Can you do this? Does it taste like sawdust? Too much fiber? I'm just curious as to anything I can sub for oats, because I love oatmeal.

I'm not an expert on nutrition (yet), but I think that eating flax seed in this quantity might produce extremely high octane "movement"....if you get my drift. I put a tablespoon in my shake every morning and that's enough to...well, you know.

Re: Flax seeds as porridge (eat like oatmeal)?

one part almond meal, one part ground flax makes a passable cream of wheat type stuff. I add berries to mine as well, heat and eat. No issues for me usually 2-3 tablespoons of each.

Well actually it does have a better consistency with 2 parts almond meal one part flax. Huge amount of fat but I eat a LOT of fat and do well with it.

I say try it. Just do it on a week end when you can stay in.

My oatmeal is the one thing I will not give up on my paleo diet, I say keep eating your oatmeal. I add 2 heaping tablespoons of ground flax seed, approx. a half cup of Wymann's frozen wild blueberry's, teaspoon of honey and a scoop of protein, after breakfast I am strict paleo for rest of day, the pounds melt off!

Eating whole flax seeds is not equal to eating ground up flax seeds. The important oil is encased in the seed's husk. I've heard that eating the seeds whole keeps your body from accessing the full nutrional value.

Buckwheat is technically paleo as it is a fruit! But the serving size is small....

Re: Flax seeds as porridge (eat like oatmeal)?

well, whole flax seeds are not very good for you to eat as a pp stated. If ground flax is used it needs to be freshly ground. Ground flax goes rancid very quickly. Rancid oils are not good for your body.
