$26 Rubber Mats - Thanksgiving sale in Wooster, OH

Rural King in Wooster, OH is selling their rubber mats 20% off for $26 each the day after thanksgiving only, which is when I'll be buying mine. They said that for gyms they are better than the TSC mats because they are heat treated instead of glued. The gluing leaves larger pores that are more likely to house infection. 3/4"x4'x6' 96lb each.

Re: $26 Rubber Mats - Thanksgiving sale in Wooster, OH

I know nothing about the R&B mats they sell, but I have a Tractor Supply Company (TSC) stall mat you contrast them with and I'm pretty disappointed with it because of the surface pattern, which is too deep and strong.

Normal side up the thinner plates sit in little ruts and can't easily be rolled into exact positions. I can flip them over with the drainage side up, which somewhat alleviates the problem, but that allows dirt to get trapped in the grooves and the directionality of the pattern causes the plates to want to roll.

In the future I will pay closer attention to the surface of the mats to find one more finely textured.

Scott,

I am also looking at TSC for mats and I am a little confused. Are you talking about the "Diamond Plate" pattern on the top? That is too deep and interferes?

I have only seen them in pictures but the pattern doesn't look like much. I better see them in person before I buy also.

When the groove side is down, does that make the mats squishy at all or are they still pretty solid?

Fleet Farm sells 1/2" thick mats that don't have the drainage grooves in the bottom. Unfortunately, they are only a dollar cheaper than the 3/4 inch grooved mats at $37/ea. I wonder if 1/2" would be thick enough.

Also, can get old conveyor belt from the mine but it is only 3 feet wide and I am pretty sure it is worn out where the belt rides on the rollers.

As you can tell, I'm trying to find a deal. It seems like the TSC mats are the best deal for me within driving distance.

We have the diamond plated rubber mats and don't have any problems with them. They are from TSC. The cuts on the bottom of the matting are necessary for cushion, otherwise it would be like putting a blanket on concrete.

I think the rolled matting would be optimal but we paid $22/mat.

Aaron,

Make sure you check with TSC in Marion, OH before you take the other deal.

We bought all of TSC Marion's stock a couple weeks ago. We couldn't be happier with the mats. 22 bucks a piece is a great deal.

Thanks for the tip Bill H.

Bill H,

$22/mat would be sweet. How did you get that deal? Or, is that their normal price?

My local TSC sells them for $38.

Thanks
Scott

Scott,

Keep in mind that for the most part I'm working with a pair of 10K bumpers on the bar. They taper to a point where they are only about 3/4" thick. Thats not a lot of surface area in contact with the mats.

So yes, with that in mind, I find it difficult to line my bar up as exactly as I'd like because of the large texture of the diamond pattern. On my mats the bumps that comprise the texture are about 2.25" long, and about 2.25" apart. That makes for a diamond shaped rut about 2"X2" that the 3/4" thick plates sit in. It's simply makes for a bit of a fuss to get the plates sitting in parallel ruts.

I find I prefer to use the mats with the drainage side up but they are dirt traps. They aren't squishy at all, so don't worry about that.

All things being equal I'd much prefer a smoother texture.

Re: $26 Rubber Mats - Thanksgiving sale in Wooster, OH

Here's more info on the $22 mats from TSC.

All TSC stores sell the new mats for $36-$39 each. Some stores sell 4x6 3/4" mats made from recycled rubber, 24.95 each, less 10% for qty 25+. The SKU# is 2330003. Call a store in your area and give them that SKU# and they can tell you if any store in there region has them in stock. I only found 4 stores in the entire state of Ohio that had these in stock, we bought out the stock of the store closest to us.

We are testing the mats to determine "which side up" is better. PM me if you want to know what we find out.

BTW-Bill Henninger gave me the tip on the recycled mats earlier this year. I thought posting the SKU number would help some of you save some time.
