West Point Indoor Obstacle Course

A guy that I work with told me about the West Point Indoor Obstacle Course (IOCT) that is a rite of passage for them. I found a clip on Youtube (just search "IOCT"). Looks "fun"

Link is work safe/family safe:

The parkour folks would love it!

Anybody on the board know what the record is?

Has changed a bit since I last took it in 1982. All I can say it that it completely sucked. We used to postulate that they pumped fresh air out of the gym to make breathing even more difficult. I would equate the duartion and feel to Fran.

Great, now I want to build that in my backyard !

"And on the left, the worlds largest backyard playground!"

It just keeps going, and going, and going .....

Re: West Point Indoor Obstacle Course

I grew up on post at West Point and there was no better place to be a kid. There were endless miles of woods to play in, it was safe to ride your bike anywhere on post, cadets taught youth sports (which is really cool when you are 12!), and, as a dependent, you basically had free access to everything the cadets had – ski slope, ice rink, swimming areas, and yes, the gigantic gym.

Here’s one event that needs to be added to this O-course that my slightly wayward friends and I discovered: 1.) Navigate your way out the one window in Arvin Gym that gives access to the roof above the gymnastics room; 2.) Locate the skylight that opens above the foam pit; 3.) Lower yourself through the opening (this may only be big enough for a 12 year old to squeeze through - I don’t remember); 4.) freefall about three stories into the pit. Good times!

Re: West Point Indoor Obstacle Course

Men's max score is a 2:13, women's max score is a 2:54. Once upon a time I did this in about 2:25. My Fran best Fran time is 4:45. I think the IOCT hurt more though. Even my teeth hurt. Some of the super hero's could finish the IOCT around 2:00. Somehow they're letting me come back to teach in that department next year. I can't wait to share the CF pain! Thanks for the video!

Re: West Point Indoor Obstacle Course

They are currently renovating Hayes Gym. Renovations started last summer during grad week. As far as I know they aren't making any changes to the IOCT. It is only required for plebes and cows now. I love that thing but I am definitely thankful that February 20th will be my last time taking it for record.
