What to do after eating too many carbs.
Yesterday I was at a friends place for brunch. Planned it as a cheat meal (I am on the zone for a few months now).
French toast, berries on top, fried bananas, syrup, pastries, OJ, coffee. No protein, no nuts - worst possible meal I think. Up to now any cheat meal has still been somewhat balanced. So an hour or so later and for about 2-3 hours I felt awful. Couldn't think, function etc. Just sat down (home by then) and crashed. Hated it - but couldn't think of anyway out of it. Or is there? Do you just have to wait until your body levels out? Meal was fantastic, but not worth it in the end. Jason |

Great question. I know exactly what you are talking about. There is no way out of the sugar crash that comes with high-carb cheat meals, you just have to wait it out. You might try eating some protein and fat to try and right your endocrine system, but it won't be a cure-all.
I try to plan those kinds of cheat meals for evenings, so I can sleep through the crash... kind of like a night of drinking. |

Have a 1-2 block snack 2-3 hours after the cheat. Don't beat yourself up, just hop back on the train.

I'm with Ben here - I will usually try to 'counteract' the high carbs with some protein. It helps, but you still need to ride it out. Don't beat yourself up over it.

I usually feel to heavy and sedated to do much of anything, hence the reason I don't have carb heavy cheats very often. I did however have one this weeked, ate an entire medium Pizza Hut pizza in about 3 hours. Needless to say I was the epitome of inactive.

It's okay to jump off the wagon, who hasn't. Life sometimes just leads us that way. The Zone discusses that issue. After feeling crappy, eat a zone meal (if following).

I've done this for dinner two days in a row now. Last night at the in-laws for meatballs and pasta, then leftovers tonight... couldn't even think about getting into the garage for a workout, just sat on the couch with a headache...thank god the leftovers are gone...

The same thing you do after drinking too much, wait for it to wear off
Learn your lesson and drive on I call it a "foodover" instead of the more common "hangover" Many people are like alcoholics they eat bad so often they have a "tolerance" for it and don't feel it acutely just die young |

Try water
Try drinking an obscene amount of water right after such a meal, like 75-100 oz. It's hard to know what's a placebo, but I'm 90%+ sure that really helps me get over those meals much faster. No clue why.
