What are some of your favorite movie scenes and/or movies and why?
Friday Night Lights - Halftime of the big game. Good message about brotherhood and doing everything you can. Schindler's List - When Schindler is leaving the factory near the end of the movie. The value of life - a value often forgotten in the world's most affluent country. Legend of Bagger Vance - During the big golf match when the main character has to go find his ball in the woods - Metaphor for a lost life. "Find your swing" |

"Rocky" - running up the Philly Library steps, arms raised in triumph as the sun rises(I know, an obvious pick)
"Field of Dreams" - Costner throwing the ball with his dad's ghost. "The Usual Suspects" - Who is Keyser Soze? "The Big Lebowski" - The crown jewel of my dvd collection, really 'ties it together'. "Fight Club" - for all the insightful quotes about man's place in the world etc.. "Office Space" - because I, like so many others, can relate. |

Battle of Britain: Because my Grandad 1st showed it to me and lived it as a civilian engineer repairing the airfields. Plus the line " spring Chicken to ****e hawk in one easy lesson."
The Great Raid- As a former soldier to see they finally got the battle drill right. The rookie Ranger who got assigned the Bazooka and ended up doing it right. Also because I know the Rangers where patterned after the original Green Berets- The British Commando's. And since there is no movie about them I gotta make do. |

Some of my favorites:
"Thief", esp. the scene (usually cut from cable/TV versions) between Willie Nelson and James Caan. "Uncommon Valor" - quote from Shakespeare "If we meet again, then we shall smile. If not, then this parting was well made." Pretty much any episode of "Firefly", but this quote is lovely: "Isn't that what governments are for...gettin' in a man's way?" Can you tell I am a non-conoformist, just like everyone else? :-) |

The Matrix. Agent Smith quotes:
"Never send a human to do a machine's job." "Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a phone call when you are unable to speak?" "Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability." Really cool movie. Ahead of it's time as far as the FX goes. Also I like how a computer program thinks he has the upper hand on the human race but in the end it is still the humans, with Neo's help, that gets the last laugh. It kind of reminds me of CF style vs. Machine weights. Machines are still substandard compared to the mechanics of the human body. http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/3499/19975.jpg |

From Airplane:"We've got to get this woman to a hospital."
"A hospital? What is it? " "A large building with sick people in it, but we don't have time for that now!" Soldier When Sgt. Todd (Kurt Russell) is asked what he expects to do fighting the 20 genetically-enhanced soldiers single-handedly, he answers dutifully: "Kill them all, Sir!", Orlando Bloom in Evolution: "There's always time for lubrication!" |

Repo Man: a lost classic
"John Wayne was a fag." "The hell he was!" "He was too, you boys. I installed two-way mirrors in his pad in Brentwood, and he come to the door in a dress." "That doesn't mean he was a homo, Miller. Alot of straight guys like to watch their buddies f---. I know I do." "F-- a John Wayne. Tell us his name, you little P----." |
