Unbelievable! Team Ruthless/Crossfit VA is not only forced out of the gym with an absurd contract, but ANYONE affiliated to CrossFit or to Dino & Ashley (Ruthless Training Concepts/Crossfit VA)is no longer allowed at World Gym in Manassas Virginia.

When I walked in to workout wednesday evening I was harrassed the entire hour I was there. World Gym told me that I can't be a gym member if I work for Ruthless Training Concepts. I told I wasn't working for anyone right now. As soon as I said that Wolrd Gym offered me a job that "surely would pay me more" than Ruthless, because they specifically were looking for 2 or 3 female trainers. When I asked if I could let them know the next day about the job, they said no; i had to give them an answer before leaving the gym. Before I left the gym I requested for them to provide in writing the exact reasons I was being banned from the gym as Crossfit.com is only a free website and I wasn't training anyone at their property. They asked if I went to California for the Crossfit Seminar last week. When I said: "Yes, and anyone from anywhere can sign up and attend the seminar." the manager said I couldn't be a member of their gym for that reason in addition to the potential fact that I might be working for Ruthless Training Concepts/Crossfit VA. So I told them I would continue to come back to the gym until they put all that in writing.

Today, I walked in with 2 of my friend who attended the seminar with me in Santa Cruz last week--Diane and Javier. The manager approached us and told them the same thing he had told me the day before. In addition, the manager handed a copy of my membership contract highlighting: "Member agrees to follow club rules as promulgated from time to time. Violation of these rules may be cause for suspension or cancellation of membership." I said, this is not a letter from the gym specifying that working for ruthless now or in the future or affiliation to Crossfit was a rule not to be broken. I demanded it was put in writing. He caught an attitude and said "Are you leaving or not?" We all said "NO!" and proceeded to work out. Soon thereafter they had 3 cops walk to us while we were practicing kipping pull-ups, muscle ups on the pull-up bar, and HSPUs...so they asked us what was wrong. Eventually the cops got annoyed because there was no reason for the call. In the end, I only had more witnesses to my demand of having the gym put in writing that they are cancelling my membership for allegedly working for crossfit VA and for AShley Weakley (Xfit VA's owner) and my affiliation for crossfit---ha, ha, ha. When I repeated I'd keep comign back until it's put in writing since they haven't served me with a no tresspassing notice either...they got mad. The manager was stupid enough to ask if I was a lawyer, the cops stared at him because they knew i was right, and we said we can get one if we need to.

Oh the bright side, told the cops to look at crossfit.com--ha ha ha, the manager was angrier and told them that's why they don't want us there

So what do you think? Should we pursue this matter any further? After they asked for $15K a month for rent, now they kick us out? Is it worth harrasing them as we prepare to open our new Crossfit Va facility in a few days and run them out of business anyways? Should we be Ruthless? or let them run us out just because we come in and do a funky workout that has worked wonders for me and many people there (now our clients....he he he)? Should we take this to newspapers and tv? Should crossfitters be kicked out like this? What are they afraid of?
Do you know anyone that would like to take the case?

For the record--If you are in the area stop by, Team Ruthless' own facility will be open for business ready to train or die on March 1st!

I would take it to the next person up the Gold's ladder. Calmly explain to them your situation and that you'll be out of their club by March. Explain that it's almost certainly better for business for all of you if things ended on a polite note, and reassure them you are not doing training in their facility to recruiting their members. Request to have your membership extended until the end of the month. IF that doesn't work, you can look into other options.

Where is the new gym going to be?

Honestly I am not suprised, I have heard bad, bad things about Golds.

I do crossfit WOD's at Fitness First in Tysons Corner without a problem.

Good luck with the new place.

I don't think gold's gym is as bad...this one is World Gym.

New place will be at 7228 Gabe Street, Manassas, VA right off Rt. 66 West, exit 47A

Erika,

Is this the third battle of Manassas?

Don't sue. Don't harrass them, except for the purpose of amusing yourself by such activities as wearing CrossFit gear to workout in. Smile at the manager everytime you see him. Move on in March, and put "Banned From World's Gym" on the backs of your new CF VA Tshirts, then start bad mouthing them to the media as if you were a professional wrestler on WWE Monday Night Raw. Challenge them to meet you in a fitness duel.

That is crazy. I'm a high school librarian, so I just use the facilities here. Often I'm the only adult in the weight room. Other than that I sometimes go to the YMCA. There's rarely even any trainers or anything in the weight room, and the ones that I see in there don't seem to care what I'm doing.

Erika, that's a totally awesome story. Especially the cops being called out and the way you handled the situation.

SO... they called the cops on you after you turned down their job offer? Priceless!

I guess the club rules as promulgated from time to time for World's Gym now include the following:

"World Gym members are not allowed to think about joining another gym. Such thoughts will be considered reason for termination of contract. Any World Gym member caught thinking about another gym will be considered to be trespassing and will be removed by force."

I wonder if they belong to the local Better Business Bureau... prolly not.

That is ridiculous! How can they ban someone for attending a certification class? The fact that he called the cops is laughable. When I worked at gyms I never thought..."gee we should kick that member out because I found out they attended some meeting the other day."

I like Dan's suggestion. "Banned from Worlds Gym" haha!

March 1st huh? Also did you mean Gabe Ct? not Street? I tried to map it on google and the thing corrected me.
