Tried to get tossed this weekend at a gym near Racine, WI. Found out though that it the Cardinal Fitness that is going to host Ryan Atkin's crossfit classes. Great job for Ryan!

Is buying the gym the same as getting kicked out?
Or is it kicking out the real problem. Doug |

Doing dumbbell swings.
Repeat with Dumbbell snatches. Grunting and screaming (with my clients) while using the Versaclimber. Doing one-handed olympic bar snatches. Kicking people out of the squat rack for doing curls. Running into the gym for "farmers walk" during sandbag death (on my site) and getting dirt/blood/sweat on equipment. Walking up to "patrons" who wipe their face with teh bottom part of their shirt (to show their abs) and asking them if this is the weird carnival mirror that makes them look more buff than than they really are. I've got lots of them. SCRAP |

At the gym I once worked at, I saw a former (journalist) co-worker doing the worst squat I have seen on an unimpared person!
So after we catch up and I have her doing ***-to-grass goblet squats (THANKS DAN JOHN!) and going "Wow! My knees don't hurt!" the manager approaches me and accuses me of training my friend. I told him, "All of your trainers are looking at this woman about to break herself, and I show her something that makes her say she's not in pain and I'm the problem? Get lost man, you're wasting my time." I'm am so tempted to open my own gym thanks to this site! |

OH and how could I forget!
Swearing and grunting beginning at about 122 of 150 KB swings. By the time I got to my pullups and OHS, I was a ringer for a loud Tourette's syndrome sufferer. Does it count if the complaint is lodged AFTER you're showered and ready to go home? Or does it count only if you're cornered while you do the offending thing? |

I used to workout at a corp gym aboot 5 yrs ago in Raleigh. I was doing Istavan Javorek's Tremendous Pleasue or Power Thrash II workouts, lots of dumbell complex's and jump squats. I usually worked out later in the evening bc I was hogging most of the dumbells for the complex's. One night during a tough midweek arse kicker workout, some guy kept on staring at the dumbells I was using,(I usually had the 15 thru 35 DB's in the corner w/ me) went to the counter and complained. A few mins later one of the counter people came over--after they got off the phone and asked me to rerack the dbs after I was finished with a set. I said that I was using them over and over and I pointed out that if someone came over and asked to work in or to use I would gladly let them and said that my rest time is up and I have to get going again...On a busy Saturday morning, after waiting for more than 20 mins for 2 guys to finish their bicep curl workout on both squat racks, they'd do a set then chat, and chat some more then another set. I hovered around them waiting to do Squat Jumps with the BB. During my set I was approached by a trainer that asked me not to do it, because I may hurt my back and neck--I still did them only when he wasn't around. I am moving back to Raleigh and will live 5 mins away from CrossfitNC gym!!!

I've been doing this style of workout off and on for a couple years now, and finally understand what you folks with gym memberships go through.
Usually I work out in my basement or in the woods. Well, they opened up a fitness center in the building I work in. Of course, I avoided it at first. Well, a few days ago curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to check it out. Sure enough, just a big old room with machines. No oly bar, no pullup bar or dip station, much less rings, ab mats, or med balls. It has several treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, stationary bikes, and even a recumbent bicycle machine/towel rack. For resistance, they have the usual leg press, chest press, moob master, curl machines, and tri extension thingy, and some crunch machines. It's one saving grace (and maybe worth the $4.00/wk membership), is the three nice incline/decline benches, and the really nice set of rubberized dumbells, ranging from three to ninety lbs. They also have a Roman chair and a glute/ham stand. My first day was yesterday. I wanted to try one of them elliptical things just for curiosity's sake, but they were all occupied. All of the aerobic type machines were occupied. Nobody was using any of the dumbells or even the funny machines, but the benches were wide open. I did some stretching and some burpees for a warmup. Then I grabbed a couple forties and started doing db thrusters. Then some swings with a sixty. Then I dropped down to a couple thirties and did some OHS's. It was then I noticed I was working out in front of a mirror. First time I ever had that experience. I never realized how red my face could get. Then, still looking at the mirror, I looked behind me at the gym. Everybody in the room was looking at me like I was some kind of alien. There's also a couple of instructor/attendants there. They watched me too, but so far, haven't said anything. But it's only been one day. I really wish they would throw in some bars and plates. And a nice C2 would really be nice. But I doubt that would ever happen. All in all, especially since it's right here at work and dirt cheap, it's doable. About the only thing I may have a problem with is the 'no grunting' rule. Not sure I can max out without making some animal noises. |

Next time one of the training goons comes over after you do that, mention the word "liability for the gym" in your sentence about them continuing to allow her to do something that was being done wrong. |

As I had mentioned in my second reply to my Borg post under the "Community" area, when I work out, I get the weird looks to. Especially, when I do back-to-back DB thrusters and medicine ball thrusters. I was actually shocked to see medicine balls in the first place. Being old school, I love those things. I always thought people were afraid to use them anymore. I am glad to see that CF incorporates them into their workouts. We CF'ers work out to extreme exhaustion with a lot of intensity and concentration. Unlike, the pampered newcomers of today’s exercise mindset. Everything is pristine, clean, bright and covered with a nice chrome finish. People were shocked to see me using the treadmills for sprint (speed) training within my regular jogging routine. To think, actually running very fast on a treadmill….Oh my! I need to win the lottery and do what Professor X , of the X-Men, did. Build a mansion with my own subterranean danger room.
