LMAO as the wall ball...nice! Did you count that as a rep...or no, because you didn't catch it?

I didn't actually get tossed, but I was sternly admonished for grunting while doing pullups (WOD was Annie) at a corporate gym. Not a big surprise until you consider that the ~1000 ft^2 of the floor was blocked off and 50 or so women were doing step aerobic to pulsating techno music under the command of a narrow-assed leader with an MC-Hammer microphone.
"It's not that kind of gym" was the money quote. |

I didn't get tossed either but I'd worn out my welcome, for sure. Dropping 2 180# farmer's walk bars scared the bunnies at F($@)itworks half to death. It didn't help that the only space to walk passed thru the cable crossover machine.

Sad story:
I used to be one of those guys in the UA Rec Center that had to tell people no standing OH BB lifting or OL movements (in my defense, we also didn't have bumpers or platforms in the Rec, and there was an OL club available to students that had all of that stuff). That was also during my BBing days, so I hadn't been properly educated as to their proper execution and functionality and I didn't fight the status quo. Now there is a CSCS who is Director of Fitness (as opposed to the aerobics instructors before--he brought in platforms and some bumpers. Too bad he said that they don't get much use. That's until the UA CF club gets going! Dr. G |

Don't know. One big problem is I work for the city Parks and Rec dept. So kind of hard to fire me. The other prob is I'm already known for extreme training behaviour, I think riding my cross bike to work in a blizzard and while it was -2o did it.
I think I'd have to do something really disturbing to get a cease and desist order. |

Jeff-
I think Lauren and Greg have reserved a seat in the front row at the May certification. How far are you guys from Santa Cruz? Or I will be in Sacramento in June. I need to see if I can actually keep up with your kids ! Surprisingly, my local gym lets me get away with a great deal, except they informed me that rowers will not be added. I was given a line that some companies were being sued for "ruining users lower backs". I guess I will have to do Sumo High pulls with loud grunts! |

If I had this happen in a real gym I would be gone for sure.
In 90 at the bording school in ON I went to there was weight stuff in a portable classroom. It was attached to the gym. Don't recall the weight. While doing squats had a good leg cramp on the 2nd last rep. Had to dump the bar, where assisted by gravity it proceeded through the floor into the ground 5 feet below. |

You win. - - - - - - I actually have had the fortune to do most of my training in the weight rooms of St. John's College in Annapolis and Santa Fe, where there is a surprisng degree of tolerance. I - Played good workout music - really loud. - Handwalked - Hung rings from their multi-pulley cable crossover machine / pull-up station and did dips. [Come to think of it, they still have my rings....] - Cleared part of weight room floor to handsprings - Lowered weight from snatch, C+J, overhead squat many times, often without bumpers. Even took snatches to the back of the neck and lost power jerks behind me... it was all cool. - Dragged mats into the box jumps for repetitions at a hip-navel height - Did circuits and lay down on the floor afterwards. - Handwalked. - Attempted front tucks over and over again on mats - Never wrote my times on the wall, but I did put some Fran and 'Viking Helen' (Helen w/erg sub) times up on their whiteboard. I eventually left to go to the olympic weightlifting gym I'm now at, but I never got any flak from anyone except one widely disliked individual who found that the music disturbed her stationary bike reading while reading magazine/ lame yoga. The fact that the gyms weren't open to make money probably had a lot to do with the reception I got. The fact that a large number of people there kettlebell, do hardcore calisthenic and odd implement conditoning, and train BJJ probably helped, too. |

What I did at work last year would probably have done it. I was training for a half Iron Du and the schedule required a 90 min ride. Got off at 4pm and had to lead a trail run at 5pm and I was driving.
So lugged the tri bike and trainer to work and set it up. Rode for the 90 min and the members didn't even care. Does that qualify as obssessive? |

I haven't gotten tossed either, but I have gotten a lot of warnings.
Bare feet seems to drive people nuts, especially when O-lifting and doing deadlifts. Also using a weight belt with 90lbs and doing pullups in bare feet got me in trouble. Hanging from my knees and doing reverse crunches on various pieces of equipment. Doing various things on pullup bars that I usually do on rings. Telling people to quit using machines. Laughing at people doing isolation exercises Making the trainers look really weak. HSPUs against the mirrors. |
