Well, for anyone who's interested, my first Strongman Comp. ended up with me in 2nd. place, out of 24 men.

VERY HAPPY with this.

Thats after about 5 and a half mos. of doing crossfit!!!!

The events were:
Incline Log press, 180lbs, for reps in 75 secs.
I did 30 reps in 75 secs.
finished probably 5th or 6th in this event. Knew I would be weak in it, as I'm a poor bench presser.

Tractor Tire flip
560lbs, for reps in 75 seconds.
I got 9 reps for this, 2nd. in this event. The winner in this event got 10. Didnt have a clue how this would go, cause Ive never even seen a tire that big, let alone flip it end for end.

Sled pull
450 lbs on the sled, plus the friction on the pavement.
40 feet for time.
I got 12 seconds for this event, again giving me second. The best time being 10 seconds. I can honestly say this was too easy. The hardest part of this event was keeping the rope from getting tied up in your hands in that brief time. The majority of the competitors were over a minute.

Static Hold
136lbs in each hand for time.
A few seconds shy of 2 minutes. Finished somewhere in the top ten for this one, not exactly sure where. Once again knew that this would be a weak event. Purely grip strength, thats an easy one to work on.

The Highlights!!!
Being asked by two of Canada's premier strength athletes, Travis Lyndon and Michael Bade, both of whom compete and win on an international level to come and workout with them. As well as being asked by a University Strength coach to come and train.

For the last 5 and a half mos, my training has consisted of nothing more than following the Crossfit principles and the WOD. Minimum once, most days, twice a day. I added a few weeks of the Smolov Squat routine in there, just for laughs.
Will I compete in a strong man comp. again?
Absolutely!!!
Will I change the way I workout?
Not a chance!
I would simply add some event specific training. Nothing more.

Great summary Steven, I've always wondered what a strongman comp is like. Very well done for barely training for something like this. I can't wait to see how you do further on down the road.

Huge effort, Steven!

That's almost a proof of the CrossFit concept. Consistently good performances across the board without specialising in anything in particular.

450# on the sled... too easy?!? Damn...

Well why am I not surprised?! Outstanding work Steveo, by the looks of it the O-lifting etc really paid off in the sled pull and tire flip!

Steven,
Great job! A 2nd place in your first competition and with no specific training for the events. I think that is not only a testimonial to Crossfit training, but also to you personally.
