So Shane do you think it is a question of being strong OR fast? Seems to me both have their place. As an MMA fighter it seems the hand eye coordination and foot speed should get a bit more of your attention and I think most fighters use the rope in this fashion. Check out Buddy Lee jump ropes. Very, very fast.

Some with the metal wire rope are extremely fast. I think some of Buddy's have it. It also give positive, stinging, feedback if you miss:-)

I think speed is more important when jumping rope--speed and coordination.

I've been through 5 different ropes the past few months. I usually test if I can do double unders... some of them are o . k.. but i usually give up on them and throw them away :op (thinking there must be a better one out there)
That being said, if i'm looking for the absolute fastest rope, you'd recommend "Buddy Lee's Aero Speed Jump Rope" ? Seems kind of pricy no?
what are the ropes being used in Santa Cruz, or other crossfit facility?

Re: Best jump rope?

Checkout the ropes made by lifelineusa.com. I have the beaded one that I got free with scrapper mod1 and its the best i've used. The weighted ones look quite good also.

Re: Best jump rope?

Throughout the years, I've probably purchased every type of rope available to include weighted ropes, cable and beaded. I currently have the Aero Speed Jump Rope from Buddy Lee and two ropes from www.buyjumpropes.net, the Championship Freestyle and the Ultra Speed Cable rope. I think the Ultra and Aero are comparable in speed. I think the Championship Freestyle is more versatile than the other two. If I was going to buy a rope today, I would probably go with the ropes from www.buyjumpropes.net because of the cost. Also, I have no financial interest in the company. I just like the product, especially for the price.

That said, the fastest rope I ever had was a cable rope from years ago. It eventually broke. But, I never wanted to screw up with it because, if I did, I paid dearly.
