Jon,
Great video it's like a movie of my perfect day. Throw in a Guiness on the walk home and role credits, that's a wrap.

I do have a question, what keeps the straps from sliding off the end of the bar? Is it just a snug fit or are they attatched?

Thanks

Jerry,

Thanks for the props! The muscle-up on the cliff was an early morning, fresh out of the gate move. I didn't even attempt to repeat it.

Sammy and I climbed some of the hardest stuff we've ever attempted this weekend--a 5.9 rated lever move and a sustained 5.8 layback. I won't be doing any pullups for a few days!

We went to the most beautiful place I've ever been. The Lost City is a hike-in/hike out cliff band in the Shawangunk Mountains in Gardiner, NY. The pictures are amazing. I'll have a story up on Again Faster by Friday.

Jen,

Good work! I like the neutral grip on the monkey bars. Sam and I are going to build a Bacchar ladder in the next few weeks and incorporate lock-offs into our pull-up routines. From the climbing circles we ran in this weekend, I gathered that isometric holds are a great way to build pulling strength.

Kelly,

Way to innovate! I'd love to see some pictures of your setup! When you can kip out 40 on the AF Bar, make sure to document the attempt. You are always an inspiration, and I can't wait to train with you again!

There is another way to make the bar roll without removing the black straps--simply loosen the retaining nut closest to the bar. This will allow the bar to rotate! It's a 1/4" nut--an 11mm socket will work also!

John and Heidi!!!

Looking good with the turkish getup! Thanks so much for posting the pictures. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting the Crossfit Cape Fear folks, they are exactly the kind of people you want training beside you--a ton of heart and drive to succeed. Good work!

As Sam Lepore alluded to, HQ has posted a video of me kipping on a cliff on today's (10/23/2006) main page!

Check it out! We worked hard to get the footage, and were blessed with a beautiful day! As an FYI, the bar you see in the video is the original prototype--the one I'm shipping now is identical to that in John Velandra's photos above!

Tom,

The bar is died (as in "tap and die"), and comes with galvanized end caps that screw on. These caps keep the straps on, although I doubt they're entirely necessary due to the strict tolerances to which I build the bar. Those straps won't go anywhere unless you loosen the retaining nuts.

The caps also allow you to fill the bar with additional resistance--rebar, lead shot, bearings, etc.

Thanks so much for all the support guys! Keep working hard!

Best,

Jon

Crossfit is functional! Here's the cliff-up!

Keep working that kip! I had to kip hard to make this transition--it was only possible because of the overhanging nature of the ledge.

Best,

Jon
